Swim
Comments: Well I pushed my way to the front of the wave since swimming is my specialty and waited for the gun to go off. When it did I took off at a brisk pace. Unfortunately it wasn't fast enough because several people were riding on top of my feet hard and it was very annoying. After about 100 yards they fell off my feet and I got some separation with 4 other people in the lead pack. I was in 3rd until the first buoy when I got passed on the inside of the buoy to move into 4th. After the 2nd buoy I managed to pass the guy who was in 2nd. Thee rest was relatively uneventful and when my fingers hit the ground I stood up and ran out in 3rd place. What would you do differently?: Maybe push a bit harder at the start and not let people pass me on the buoys. Transition 1
Comments: Ran to my bike, slipped my shoes on, put helmet and glasses on and off I went. I got passed by 2 people here. I really need to work on this time. Bike
Comments: Jumped on my bike and for once I got my legs under me a little bit faster than normal. I started pushing pretty good for a minute or two and then I really stepped it up. I passed 1 person who passed me in transition in the first mile or two and got passed by 2 more people. Then at the turn around I passed another person ahead of me and moved into 5th overall. After that I didn't see any one else on the way back who was with me. A few of the beginner wave people got in my way a couple of times and it probably cost me ~10-15 seconds overall having to brake so as not to run into people or veer into traffic, which really sucks. What would you do differently?: Nothing, I had a great bike and I felt like I was pushing the pace just hard enough to still have some run left in me. Transition 2
Comments: Well I remembered to put my stuff in an easy to find location, but unfortunately I ran down the wrong rack and thought someone had moved my stuff and lost ~10 more seconds here before I realized I was in the wrong spot. More wasted time, not a good thing. Got my shoes on quickly, grabbed my belt and took off. What would you do differently?: Head to the right rack the first time. Run
Comments: Well I hit the course and tried to put into practice a few of the tips Trish had showed me and I think they helped a bit. I started reeling in a lot of the beginner wave people and didn't see anyone else in my wave for quite some time. After about .5 mile I finally got passed by someone in my wave and I tried to hang onto him but wasn't able to for very long. My mouth was extremely dry and I was getting cotton mouth really bad, but luckily there was an aid station right at the .5 mile mark. This was a lifesaver. Right before the turnaround, I got passed by 2 more people and fell into 8th overall. Grabbed another cup of water and my cotton mouth finally went away. After 1.5 miles I got passed again and right at the finish I got passed again for 10th place overall in my wave. What would you do differently?: I think I could have raced the guy to the finish line and gave him a run for his money, but I am racing again this weekend and so I didn't want to push it. Really if I hadn't lost the time on the bike and in transition, I would have had a legitimate shot at 8th overall and 1st in my age group. Post race
Event comments: After having traveled outside of the state for a few races now, I have to say the Boise Y really puts on a hell of a race. None of the races out of state really compare. Last updated: 2010-08-05 12:00 AM
