Pre-race routine:

Had a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter at 5:15am with gatorade. Took a shower. Headed down to OC at 6:00. Arrived at 6:30. Got marked up. Setup my transition area.
Event warmup:

Jogged about 1/4 mile about 30 minutes before the race started. Headed down to the ocean for the pre race meeting and it started raining. It was cold being in just tri shorts. Tried to run on the beach to stay warm.
Swim
  • 10m 3s
  • 533 meters
  • 01m 53s / 100 meters
Comments:

I thought the swim went pretty good. It was my first ocean swim when it was choppy. At times it was tough to see the bouy because of the waves.
What would you do differently?:

I would do some ocean swims before the race next year.
Transition 1
  • 02m 43s
Comments:

Transition was slower than I would have liked. I was 38th in the transition. I put my shirt on for the bike. It was soaked from the rain so I think that slowed me down.
What would you do differently?:

Get faster.
Bike
  • 41m 22s
  • 13.5 miles
  • 19.58 mile/hr
Comments:

I was not a fan of the course. I felt like once I started getting in a groove I would be at a turn or turnaround. At times I felt me endurance failing.
What would you do differently?:

I would log more riding hours. I need to build up my biking endurance
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

I felt like I did fine in this transition but I was 59th. At this point it was raining hard.
What would you do differently?:

Practice to get more efficient.
Run
  • 23m 1s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

The tide was coming in so we lost the majority of the hard sand. It made the run hard. Although it was hard, I did feel pretty good. I think I could have pushed myself a little harder.
What would you do differently?:

I think if I knew the tide was going to be that high I would have ran in socks or barefoot. I also need to get out and run more.
Post race
Warm down:

No warm-down. Just tried to get out of the rain

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Rain and soft sand.

Event comments:

I enjoyed this race. I plan on doing it next year.
