Swim
Comments: I haven't done a race before this where you ran into the surf. It winded me a bit more than I thought, and while I tried to start swimming once running became tough, too many people were still running into me. What would you do differently?: I should've started further out in front or to the side to escape the pack Transition 1
Comments: Pretty good transition except for one stupid thing. I forgot to buckle my helmet right away, so I had to pause in my run out to do that. In the process I gashed my ankle on the pedal What would you do differently?: Not forget to buckle the helmet right away. Bike
Comments: Didn't drink much, but felt ok. Course was way too bumpy, but I pushed pretty hard. Was able to pass several guys in my age group and beat one out right before the transition since I was able to clip out and jump off on the run. What would you do differently?: Not much, just continue to get faster. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition here. Jumped off barefoot smoothly and got my running shoes on quickly. I did forget to start my foot sensor (stupid thing, I need to upgrade to a Garmin) and even worse I forgot my race number/belt (but no one noticed thankfully!). Otherwise it was pretty fast for me. What would you do differently?: NOt forget my race belt! Run
Comments: Pushed pretty hard on this run. I kept my heart rate consistent, which was good. I don't know how much more I could've done here, but I'm getting a better feel for how long I can keep a certain pace going. The sand was packed, but the start and end were a little tough since the sand was dry and loose What would you do differently?: Just keep getting faster. Post race
Warm down: Met Colin at the finish line and then waited for the rest of the team. Ate a few snacks and had some water. Took a long time to get the results, but it was good to hang out with everyone What limited your ability to perform faster: Still have a long way to go on the swim and just continue to get faster on the bike Event comments: Great way to end my first season of racing. Placed 3rd in my age group and took home my first medal! Felt really good about my run and bike, so its something to build on going into next year. Last updated: 2010-08-06 12:00 AM

Woke up at 6am, had some OJ and a banana. Had plenty of time to get ready. Arrived an hour and a half early, had plenty of fluids and some clif blocks.
Did a quick .75 mile run and swam maybe 150 yards
