Swim
Comments: had bass boat traffic creating swells along the way, and it was pouring down rain. made last minute decision to wear wetsuit - never worn one in a race before and haven't been training in one because I didn't intend to wear it to a race. started more to the right, caught up with a lot of slower swimmers and had to go around. only got kicked once, but it took my breath for a moment. What would you do differently?: spend lots more time training in my wetsuit have the base built to start further ahead in the pack. learn bilateral breathing work on rolling more rather than plowing through the water. Transition 1
Comments: pouring down rain. miserable and cold conditions. everything was soaking wet. sat down to get wetsuit off feet, put on soggy socks and walked bike to the start to avoid slippage. What would you do differently?: spend lots more time training to get out of my wetsuit Bike
Comments: hands and legs went numb on bike, couldn't use brakes. very unhappy with physical condition, severely impacted mental state and shot confidence level. just wanted to finish the ride. chain jumped a few gears before the last long uphill battle, didn't help matters any. What would you do differently?: wear biking waterproof jacket Transition 2
Comments: I had pretty much given up by the time I got to T2 - was in no real hurry to go anywhere and I just went through the motions. What would you do differently?: that would all depend on how the 1st 2/3 of the race went to tell you what I would do differently. hopefully I would do my normal thing and be out of T2 in 60 seconds or less. Run
Comments: LSD rather than race pace. got chatty on the way - no major cramping, could have pushed much harder if the rest of the race had felt positive to this point. held back and encouraged some people to keep up and finish strong. What would you do differently?: run run run Post race
Warm down: none aside from a couple of trips back and forth to the jeep and T area to pack up and wring out my stuff, I didn't do a warm down. What limited your ability to perform faster: need more wet weather training weather was miserable, cold, wet. physical condition crippled my mental state. didn't have all the proper outerwear. really was caught off guard/unprepared overall. Event comments: The race itself is well put together with lots of volunteers. It is a long sprint. The weather is too unpredictable at this time of the year. I told myself 2 years ago if I had another poor performance in bad weather at MMT that I wasn't going to do it again. So... I hope to be on the run course next year passing out water and encouraging words. Last updated: 2010-08-06 12:00 AM

I always stop and get a 16oz coffee and a plain bagel on the way to every race. 1-2 hours before transition opens.
set up T area, go back to truck and nap for 1/2 hour listening to Pink Floyd.
swam maybe 50 yds hard to get blood flowing 6 minutes prior to start
