Swim
Comments: Got out fast as my swim is my strongest event in the tri. was out front for about 400 meters when I came up for one of my breaths a guy came in from the side and swam over me and pushed my underwater. had a little bit of a panic attack as I could not get my breath back for about 30 seconds and honestly thought I am in trouble. I calmed down and got back in a rhythm. and even though it was not my best time still a 35 is pretty respectable. came out of the water very dizzy. What would you do differently?: swim harder for the first 400 meters to make sure i was in the very front group. Do a better job of breathing out of both sides to not get so dizzy on the swim. push harder!! Transition 1
Comments: took a little while to gain my balance so could not run in the transition, cost me a good 30 seconds, once I got to my area felt pretty good. What would you do differently?: grab an extra couple cliff shots and salt tablets Bike
Comments: My first half of this course was awesome was about 10 minutes ahead of my planned time, and feeling stronger as I went I was passing people on the hills, the down hills and on the flats, I usually only catch people on the down hills and flats so the hill training really made a difference, thanks Matt for making me do a lot more. BAD LUCK THOUGH. about 27 miles I go into the shaded area and take my glasses off to put in my helmet and one of the lenses falls out. for $180 I stop and have to run back and get it. UGH... then at about 35 miles in back flat. have to stop and change problem is as i am trying to get the tire off my tool breaks, thank the tri watchers I left another one in my pack. the new tire is so tight it takes me about 20 minutes to get it off and another to change it. 35 minutes later i am back on the road and now about 45 minutes behind my goal of 5:40. What would you do differently?: use thicker tubes. not take off my sun glasses Transition 2
Comments: OMG... I got into this transition having to go to the bathroom so bad so outside of that one thing i had a good transition. Run
Comments: first 6 miles went without a hitch running sub 9s so was very happy as I am not a great runner. problem was I forgot my sodium tablets so at mile 7 the cramping begun. both my calves were like so bad I had to walk until they went away and then start running again, so my overall pace went all the way to over 12m miles. it was so bad because I wasnt tired, felt strong, low HR and breathing but could not deal with the cramping. was mixed walking with running. going across the finish line was emotional as I honestly was thinking I might not finish as my hamstrings partnered up with my calves in the last couple hundred meters. I was coming in the home stretch and my older brother is like finish strong and I was like even though it looks like I am in slow motion I am pushing hard my muscles just wont go. What would you do differently?: sodium and definitely sun screen. it was 93 degrees and I am burnt. Post race
Warm down: limp around the finish area, eat a banana and take pictures with the family as I finished my first 70.3. What limited your ability to perform faster: dont think i ran enough.flat tire, and nutrition. Event comments: this is definitely a challenging course and i know the next one i do i will set a personal best as mine is 6:58. so I will be able to beat that Last updated: 2010-08-07 12:00 AM

Saturday before the race checked into the hotel right across the street from ironman headquarters hotel. had to attend a mandatory participant meeting prior to picking up packet. Had to have bike to the transition area by 8pm as you are not allowed to wait to the day of the race.
race day:woke up at 4:15 and walked from hotel to Dennys ordered 2 eggs over medium, wheat toast, oatmeal and coffee. Left for race at 5:15am as the transition area opened at 5am. parking is a challenge at this venue unless you want to pay $20 for premium parking. we got lucky and found a street with openings about 5 blocks away. LUCKY!!! went into transition area to set up, get numbers on equipment and get body markings. then you had to go to a whole other area to pick up your timing chips that were on their own bracelets didn't like that as mine doesn't chaff at all. Took a caffeine cliff shot about 30 minutes prior to my heat.
The pros went off at 6:30 and my heat was at 6:54; the staging area for the heats was done without a hitch but the lack of water spots in that area and restrooms was not great. went out in the water for a swim to get warmed up but was a crowded small area and logs underwater and muddddddyyyy. but still got a little warm up in. They also limit the amount of people (spectators) in that area.
