Age Group = F40-44
Age Group Rank = 37/117
Pre-race routine:

Ate my usual Oatmeal, left early to get the race site in time to get a parking place in the park. last year had to park way far away and didn't want to do that this year. arrived at 6AM and took a little cat nap in the car until it got light enough out, about 6:30
Event warmup:

set-up, ate a mini power bar and hit the portas. swam about 100Ms.
Swim
  • 08m 49s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 12s / 100 yards
Comments:

water was really warm. crowd seemed to separate out pretty fast, didn't have to deal with too many crowding issues
What would you do differently?:

nothing, good swim for me
Transition 1
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

only trouble was usual getting socks onto feet quickly and without wrinkles
What would you do differently?:

nothing, except maybe run a little faster from water to transition
Bike
  • 42m 44s
  • 13 miles
  • 18.25 mile/hr
Comments:

a little less than a minute faster than last year's bike. it seemed like I had to work harder to maintain a good pace. i knew at the time it was gonna cost me on the run. ate a gu between miles 8-9.
What would you do differently?:

i could have considered slowing down a little to conserve my legs a bit for the run, but i didn't really think it would payoff to lose time on the bike for such a short run.
Transition 2
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

less than a minute. ran all the way entrance and exit.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 31m 55s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

i felt slow, was slow. i couldn't get my legs to move faster. I think it was both mental and physical. physical because the hard bike took it out of my legs. mental because the voice in my head was telling me i can't go any faster and maybe i should just walk. I ignored the just walk voice, but I did let it slow me down.
What would you do differently?:

i don't think it was a run problem (other than learning to ignore the negative voice in my head) so much aa a bike fitness issue. I need to bike more and run more afterwards. then maybe my legs will have more left for the run.
Post race
Warm down:

sat down and caught my breath back, then hit the free stuff tents and the food table

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my goal was 1:24, so I was 2 minutes off. those 2 minutes were lost on the run. I came off the bike at 55 minutes total. i thought to myself if i can just do a 29 minute 5k, i'll hit goal. but i just couldn't get my legs to do it. Still 2 minute improvement over last year, so that part is good.

Event comments:

i love this course, 3rd year for me. improved my time by 2 minutes over last year.
