![]() Swim
Comments: Started almost on time (only 2 mins late) Was very nervous about the swim as I didn't manage to do any open water swims prior to the race and I'm not much of a swimmer. Started at the back but managed to overtake a few people. Was pretty happy in the end. What would you do differently?: Need more swimming training in general esp with open water and sighting ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Took a bit longer to get out of the suit. I had to put my bike shoes on first then try and run in the bike shoes to the mount position (can barely manage to keep on the bike normally let alone trying to do up my shoes as well!) What would you do differently?: I think it'll be a long time before I can leave the shoes attached to the bike and put them on that way. My wife was watching the race and said she saw a lot of people stacking it trying to put on their shoes as they were riding...so now I am even more nervous about doing that! ![]() Bike
Comments: I found it less stressful than I thought it would be (as I haven't done much cycling with other riders). My chain came off in the second lap :( so I had to stop for a minute or so to put it back on. In the excitement I forgot to drink any water on the cycle leg. What would you do differently?: Need to do more cycling on the road and not just on the trainer. Should get the bike serviced prior to the race so hopefully won't have chain probs. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Generally very nervous about getting off the bike at the best of times as have only been using clipless pedals a few months now. Fully stopped and got off and jogged along in my cleats. Accidentally slipped over though! Bike shoes off and running shoes on pretty quickly What would you do differently?: Prob wouldn't do too much differently until I'm much more confident. ![]() Run
Comments: Legs were pretty heavy getting off the bike but managed to pick up the pace over the course of the run. My wife and kids were there to give me a high-five at the start of the run which lifted my spirits a lot. Managed to overtake a couple of guys in my age group in the second lap! Was aiming for around 20 mins for the run so very happy with 18:57 What would you do differently?: Try to drink more on the bike as I find it hard to drink while running ![]() Post race
Warm down: Water and Gatorade and there was plenty of fruit available. Had loads of watermelon! What limited your ability to perform faster: Definitely need more swimming and bike training. Transitions were slow but will prob keep them slow and safe until I am very confident on the bike. Event comments: Seemed well organised. Was pretty happy with the course and signage and never got confused as to where I should be going. Felt it was a great experience overall Last updated: 2010-08-11 12:00 AM

Got up super early as was quite nervous with my first tri. Had breaky and loaded the bike and took off to Raby Bay.
Was there pretty early, and already had my race pack so I was numbered and into set up my stuff in transition very easily (only short queues at that time!)
Forgot my prescription sunglasses so had to leave my glasses in transition and spend the next 2 hours till my race wandering around squinting and taking peeks through my prescription goggles (must have looked like a weirdo!)
Discovered that the water temp was 17.4 deg!! Quickly rang my wife who was coming with the kids later to bring my wetsuit. Luckily she arrived just in time as I am a real wuss with the cold water
After my wetsuit was on I was pretty warm!
