Pre-race routine:

get up at 3:30am, got lost on my way to pick up Alminda, ate Dunkin Donuts in the car on the way down, met up with Jeremy, Allen, Jo-Anne, Lori, Stacey, Natasha, Alex, and Jim, took some pictures and headed to the swim start.
Event warmup:

Got in the water before the start and swam out to the buoy and back. A little stretching on the beach as the early waves went off.
Swim
  • 13m 3s
  • 537 meters
  • 02m 26s / 100 meters
Comments:

first ocean swim. harder than a lake, not too bad. was an average swim, saw everyone I started with in T1
What would you do differently?:

think about start position more, maybe go harder since it's a short swim. Must work on speed from swim to T1 - that's where I always lose time.
Transition 1
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

had trouble clipping in. Was slow in T1 - talking to people, enjoying it, not really racing.
What would you do differently?:

maybe hurry up a little?
Bike
  • 48m 44s
  • 14 miles
  • 17.24 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a great ride. I passed a ton of people. I rode hard, but felt good. I kept my cadence pretty even. Felt like a good 80+. Definitely rode better on the second half than the first.
What would you do differently?:

get down into my drops for extra speed.
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

slow T2, trouble getting watch set properly for the run
What would you do differently?:

practice with the watch before race
Run
  • 41m 4s
  • 3.15 miles
  • 13m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

this is a PR run for me. my plan was all thrown off b/c my watch didn't work. I ran more and walked less than was planned, but I had a good pace going. didn't see mile 2 or 3 marked so I was lost as to how much further I had.
What would you do differently?:

decide on a run plan and how to implement it before race day.
Post race
Warm down:

bloody marys and screwdrivers, eggs and pancakes on the boardwalk after the race. great post race nutrition!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my fitness

Event comments:

not a priority race for me. a fun race to do with friends. no pressure, just fun.
