Swim
Comments: We had several parts to our wave. 50+ males, relays, clydes. Low surf. I was 1st at the first and second buoys, then some guy just took off. Found out later he was a 65 year old. dude was fast! Someone was drafting off of me, and I got sick of it, so I pulled out to let him by... so I could draft :) I held onto his heels as he led me through the earlier waves. We passed a ton of people but there was very little swimming over anyone. We exited the water together and shook hands. He beat me to T1 but he sat down to put on socks and I was long gone. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: T1 and T2 included in bike time What would you do differently?: not much, just do it faster Bike
Comments: T1 and T2 included in bike time. Last year my total time for these three segments was 25 plus, so I've knocked 3 minutes off somewhere. My bike logged me at about 18 mph, so bike time is around 20:00. Not much to say about this bike leg. Pretty short, the kind of course I can compete on because most don't have time to catch me from the swim. Transition 2
Comments: T1 and T2 included in bike time Run
Comments: Last year I was 20+, so this is a good time for me. Still felt like I couldn't turn it on. There's a guy that races as a Clydes locally - 6'4", 201. I was joking with him before the race how he should leave the clydes to the "real" clydes. He can't swim worth sh**, but he can ride 22+ and run 6 minute miles. Near the end of the run I start to think, "Eric hasn't passed me yet, and I haven't seen him at any of the turns, I might be able to beat this guy." 200 yards from the finish I hear a volunteer yell "go eric." Damn!! He FLEW by me!. They didn't calf mark this year so I had no idea who was passing me. Turns out, three guys passed me, and finished 16, 24 and 30 seconds ahead of me, so it was near the end of the run. Maybe I would have picked it up? Who knows, but i have major motivation to cut a few minutes off my time next year. The podium is MINE :) (oh yeah, saw Eric the next weekend near the end of my 70 mile ride, as I was toasted, and he flew by me on the bike....) What would you do differently?: just more running. Simple as that Post race
Warm down: Walked round, hung out with friends, watched the awards. had several friends on the podium. What limited your ability to perform faster: bike and run. what else is new? Event comments: There was THIRTY SECONDS between first clydes and me... THIRTY SECONDS!!! This is a small local race put on by a friend (RD is my masters coach) and benefits a charity. 2d year of it, I like the distances but if he wants more people to show, he'll have to change it. Sucks for me, since I can actually win my AG here with some more work. It was great having lots of my riding and swimming freinds and tri club members as volunteers (oh yeah, my wife too), at seemingly every stage - swim start, exit, t1, t2 cheering me on. BUT GAWD, I HATE RACE PICUTRES! Last updated: 2006-02-06 12:00 AM

My wife was a volunteer leader, so she had to show up at 5 am. Ugh, but that worked out well because we got preferred parking, about 100 feet from where my bike was racked. Not to mention first dibs on racks.
Ran about 1/2 mile, rode the course once, some swimming
