Overall Rank = 427/750
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 56/72
Pre-race routine:

I was staying at a local hotel, so I didn't have to wake up too early. Got dressed in most of my gear, ate a banana, drank some water, and rode my bike over to the site.
Event warmup:

Did some good stretching and light jogging. Got in the water and nice and wet so I was used to the temp.
Swim
  • 17m 59s
  • 875 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

Got into the water with a mass of over 120 guys, so it was pretty crowded. Bumped and jostled virtually the whole time, but no major problems. Swam and breathed well, kept a good pace and rhythm. After noting my time and the way I felt, I could have gone a little harder. happy with my swim.
What would you do differently?:

I am going to go out in the front so there is not such a mass of people around me.
Transition 1
  • 03m 21s
Comments:

long run from the beach up to the T area. otherwise, fine. First time with the clip in shoes and new bike, so it took a few seconds, but not much time.
What would you do differently?:

just do it faster
Bike
  • 39m 48s
  • 11 miles
  • 16.58 mile/hr
Comments:

With my new bike I was expecting to cut some time off my first 2 races. Something must have been different because I felt like i was flying, but my time was the same. No worries, more training on the bike and I'll have a much faster time next time.
What would you do differently?:

go harder, I had a lot of energy at end of race
Transition 2
  • 02m 16s
Comments:

first time getting out of the clip in pedals, had to make sure I didn't fall off, so that was good. shoes on quickly, felt fine.
Run
  • 25m 28s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

I started off slow as i am recovering from a calf pull/cramp. Realized about 1/2 way through that it was fine, so i upped my pace. Was running almost full out the last 1/2 mile, so I know i could have gone a lot faster. happy with the run
What would you do differently?:

run faster from the start, shoot for a 7 1/2 min mile pace
Post race
Warm down:

walked around and stretched, had some water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

nothing.

Event comments:

I enjoyed this race and the event. weather could have been better, but can't control that. Noticed that they sent off 2 age groups at a time, so there were a lot of people in the water for our wave.
