Pre-race routine:

Slept like crap at my mother-in-laws house, which stressed me out. Woke up 4:45AM and had toast with PB, a yogurt, coffee and water. Not enough food for me (will get to that later).
Event warmup:

Tested bike and ran a small amount. Swam about 100yards before swim too. They pulled us to the water way too early.
Swim
  • 11m 50s
  • 586 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

They put us at the water way too early and we stood on the beach for about 30 extra minutes. Not happy with that. Once in I felt pretty good. The course was clearly longer than they stated, which was fine.
At the end (strange) some guy kept hitting me and apologizing in the water. Figured he would have stopped after the first 2 times.
What would you do differently?:

I went a bit wide on the entire course, so I think I would have tried to get closer to the buoys and the course lines.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 times were included in the swim.
What would you do differently?:

I had trouble with the bike mount. No big deal though.
Bike
  • 33m 45s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 22.04 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt okay at best on the bike. I didn't spend a ton of time in the aero position because there were way more hills than I expected.
What would you do differently?:

Learn the course ahead of time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 31s
Comments:

Slow for me. The transition area was very tight, so I had trouble sorting my stuff out with everyones swim gear that was thrown on my stuff.
Run
  • 20m 58s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt like absolute crap on the run. I think the lack of sleep and the fact that I ate way too little, way too far ahead of the race caught up to me. I felt very slow.
Cool thing is I got to run side by side with Karen Smyers for a little while. Then she dusted me, haha.
What would you do differently?:

Better rest and nutrition.
Post race
Warm down:

Light stretch and a bagel.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

tired

Event comments:

Really cool race for its second year. Big Elite and Pro field. Cool to race with some of those people at such a small event (800 racers). Would definitely do this race again.
