Pre-race routine:

Late race start (10am). Leisurely morning at home with coffe, granola, and hanging with my hubs and favorite 10-year-old. Left around 8:15 to get to race around 8:35 to register.
Event warmup:

15 minutes easy on the course, inserted 2 pick-ups (20-30 seconds) to introduce my legs to a faster speed.

Comments:

This was a TT to get fitness info. for marathon training. I have not done one ounce of speedwork in months, so wasn't sure what my legs would do. Last time I did a 5K TT on a track I held on much better. Today was pretty miserable and I spent the last 2 miles mentally composing email to my coach about why I stopped the race. Stomach hot and sloshy. Could not hang on to pace and knew I was losing it... Oh well, it is what it is and gives me data for future training.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe try to go out a little slower or pace it differently, but really, to me, a 5k is all-out balls-to-the-wall as much as you can for 20+ minutes.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran slowly around Magnusson Park, cheering on other runners (there was a 5k/10k/15k/half marathon all on the same course). Dipped the legs in Lake WA.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of speed training.

Event comments:

Small local race, part of a monthly series. Low-key, friendly, and fun. Today was a new route the RD was asking everyone after how it was, if they followed it OK, etc. Super nice.
