Age Group Rank = 7/23
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:45, ate a bagel w/ PB, left for the race around 6:40.
Event warmup:

None, very mild stretching before the swim.
Swim
  • 14m 25s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

Overall had another nice swim. Again let the very first swimmers in my wave dive in ahead of me and went in about 5-10 seconds later. Had some problems with people I had to avoid, but swam 100% freestyle without too many issues with breathing.
What would you do differently?:

At some point I will just dive in with the lead group and deal with the elbows, but my current approach has been working nicely.
Transition 1
  • 03m 9s
Comments:

Had some problem with by the feel of my helmet the first time it went on so I took it off and back on and it felt OK. Also had an issues getting the race belt to line up and snap in which wasted a few seconds.
What would you do differently?:

At some point I will want to invest in tri shoes with the single velcro.

Bike
  • 35m 28s
  • 12 miles
  • 20.30 mile/hr
Comments:

Legs always feel more tired than I think they should when I get on the bike. Overall this was my worst event. Course was very flat which led to the faster than normal pace.
What would you do differently?:

Train more on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

Nothing of note. Saw Lore in the transition area which was fun.
Run
  • 22m 46s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

Definitely haven't been training right and the legs felt heavy and very tight when starting the run. Started to feel better after about 10-15 mins.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching and eating, as usual.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training. Overall need to work most on biking and need to get back into running form. Injuries didnt help.

Event comments:

Best organization of any race I have done thus far. The fact that the Olympic follows the Sprint means that there were many facilities in place that wouldn't normally be in place for the small sprint alone (tons of porto-potties, for instance). Nice and flat course, though the double loop bike was maybe not ideal. Looking forward to doing it again next year!
