Age Group Rank = 12/36
Pre-race routine:

Didn't start until 10:15, so I slept in. Ate 2 nutra grain bars and drank some Amp and some water. Got lost on the way to the even, although I've been there before! Not a lot of pre-race time.
Event warmup:

Stretched a little, used rroom, talked with mom and wife!
Swim
  • 11m 22s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

My goal was 12:00, did it in 11:22. Got caught up a few times with another racer, but ended up passing the guy back who passed me and I passed the third guy early. One goal was to swim the whole thing freestyle, no backstroke, and that happened! Not a great swim, but better than ever.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training, keep training, keep training. If I'm ever going to be good at Tri's I'll need to be much better in this area, I get slayed by others and can't make up all the time in the other legs.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Smooth. Wouldn't change a thing.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing,this was very smooth.
Bike
  • 45m 44s
  • 13.7 miles
  • 17.97 mile/hr
Comments:

Really enjoyed this. I love this bike and this ride. My stomach just killed me for the first 5 miles and my breathing was heavy. I guess it was the cold weather and too much Nitro?
What would you do differently?:

Couldn't catch the right gear off the first hill, which cost me some momentum and 10-15 seconds early. Stay to the right, got corrected by a better cyclist- sorry, I was wrong! Keep training outside, which will be hard in N.Illinois for the next 6 months!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Felt like a good transition, I could have run with my bike, but with those shoes on it is tough. I'm pretty happy.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I'm not sure?
Run
  • 27m 15s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

I've been really working on this and it helped. My goal was to win this part of the event in my group- didn't happen. However, I felt better during this 5k than any other, bar one. Enjoyed the run and cut 5:00 from the last time I was here (5 months ago).
What would you do differently?:

I ran with only socks and that was a good decision for me. I would push a tad harder earlier, but hopefully that will happen with more training. I felt good, had a great start and finish.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked and rested.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not being a great swimmer, I must get better here. My own self, but I am happy. I could eat healthier and work harder. Again, this is great progess. My first tri was here with a time of 1:52, now here I am back 5 months later with a time of 1:27, that's awesome! I'm proud of me, and I'mgetting better.

Event comments:

My mom was here at a race for the first time which made this even more special. My wife supported me again which I treasure. I thought with this time I'd be a top 5 finisher in my group, but the field increased from 12 participants to 36 in 5 months. Everybody is feeling the Tri, and that is a great thing for this nation, it just made me sad not to get a medal! I want a medal! Great day, love Wisconsin, thank you God!
