Overall Rank = 16/383
Age Group = F 30-34
Age Group Rank = 1/29
Pre-race routine:

I've been having trouble sleeping before races, so this time I made sure to have two glasses of wine with a big bedtime snack so that I wouldn't wake up in the middle of the night from nerves or hunger! It worked :)
Event warmup:

none
Swim
  • 04m 7s
  • 250 yards
  • 01m 39s / 100 yards
Comments:

Racers were entered into the water one at a time (by water start or dive start, our choice) at 20 second intervals. I was seeded 55 by my time trial of 4:10
What would you do differently?:

I think I started a bit too fast--I felt myself slow perceptibly on the 5th length, at the halfway mark. I forgot to dolphin kick for extra length before breaking out after my turns. But I still felt myself gaining on the
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Don't know the time, since they didn't separate swim time from T1 time. But no wetsuit made for very fast transition. I do not have clipless pedals, I just biked in my racing flats with toe cages on my pedals. Used Body glide inside and out in the flats, made them slip on very easily. I would estimate the whole transition (including the run from the pool to the bike rack) took maybe 30 seconds
Bike
  • 20m 41s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 18.01 mile/hr
Comments:

I did not take water on the bike. There were too many curbs and cracks making the course bumpy. Passed a lot of people (which was an ordeal on the narrow path!)
What would you do differently?:

spend more time in aerobars, have more confidence to maintain and even build speed on downhills
Transition 2
  • 00m 26s
Comments:

not having to deal with cycling shoes helped a lot here...just dumped bike and helmet, clipped on bib belt, and took off
Run
  • 15m 26s
  • 2.1 miles
  • 07m 21s  min/mile
Comments:

passed a lot of people here. It took about a mile for my legs to recover from the bike, and after that it was fine.
Post race
Warm down:

none

What limited your ability to perform faster:

being my first race, lack of experience with performing under this new type of muscle fatigue

Event comments:

I had a great time! It was an excellent race for a first timer. I think the RD did a great job with difficult circumstances, and the volunteers were fantastic. And the prize for overall female was great! Gift certificate for free shoes--whoo-hoo! :) I'm excited to go shopping!!

Course: on a bike path that for almost 4 of the 6 miles had potential for two-way racer traffic. This was not the fault of the organizers; it was due to area construction on roads--next year it will almost certainly be back on the roads. Some bumps due to cracks/manhole covers/curbs up and down cross streets. Very mild inclines and declines. Several very tight 90 degree turns from road to path or path to road that required almost a full stop to properly navigate.
