Run
Comments: Overall, I am thrilled with my run. I needed a 3:35 to qualify for Boston 2012 and I got that with plenty of room to spare. I tried to go with a 3:20 pace group. After about mile 16-17, I started to feel that I was pushing it a little bit so I decided to back off. I was struggling a little bit during the last 5 miles, but I think that's pretty typical. What would you do differently?: Ideally, I should have backed off a little bit more during the first half of the race. I think I would have felt stronger at the end, but probably not gone any faster overall. Post race
Warm down: Ate, tried to walk around as much as possible, stayed hydrated. What limited your ability to perform faster: My training mileage was not quite where it should have been. I also need to vary my training - I tend to run the same speed all the time. Event comments: The Richmond marathon is a great race. This was my first time - I will be back. Had a few energy bars and lots of water a few hours prior to the race. Little bit of coffee to get the blood pumping.
Mostly stayed inside the nice warm hotel lobby. More water, a few bathroom runs then light stretching in the starting corral.
