Overall Rank = 159/209
Age Group = 20-29
Age Group Rank = 15/20
Pre-race routine:

Shower. Bananna/Strawberry shake with meal powder at 5 am. Had to put bikes in car and completely disassemble. Very stressful!
Event warmup:

Stretch and light bike ride.
Swim
  • 09m 44s
  • 300 meters
  • 03m 14s / 100 meters
Comments:

Rough start, worried about sister in water behind me (slowed down to find her and stay out of the pack). When I came to the turn around point, I went about 10 feet extra distance because I didn't "sight" correctly. Great finish and exit out of water.
What would you do differently?:

Don't slow down, move to outside of pack. Practice sighting while freestyling.
Transition 1
  • 02m 48s
Comments:

My bike was knocked over. The water bottle had busted open and soaked my shirt. (Good thing we had the back up bottles!) Helmet and Sunglasses were on the ground rolling around. Towel was wet before I dried off. My heartrate was outrageous: sister in race, equipment messed up, big hill starting bike portion of race, hot (because of delay in swim start) ... Had 2 shot blocks
What would you do differently?:

Watch the transition area and my equipment. Check my emotions.

Comments:

Could not make it up the BIG BUTT hill that was the start of the bike route. I ended up going down the hill and then back up to try to gain some momentium (this didn't work). My heart rate was all crazy and the pedals were not working for me. Gears were messing with me for a while. Easy return didn't hit the breaks.
What would you do differently?:

With that gigantic hill at the start of the race, I should have just rode with out my pedals in the stirrups and then hopped off the bike when the hill got steep. Should have just walked the hill with moderate speed and got my mind straight and HR down.
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

Forgot what the procedure was for T2. Kinda froze up. Ate 3 shot blocks.
What would you do differently?:

Mentally prepare for the transition prior to arriving at the transition. Rack bike, Helment off, drink, shot blocks, run!
Run
  • 48m 59s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 15m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

Rough first mile, after that, went well. Had a very strong 2nd half of race and finish.
What would you do differently?:

Don't stop!! It is so hard to start running once I stop. Get a better sports bra that holds together when wet.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around and drink water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I forgot the sunscreen and I could feel my face burning. Heat was bad and the sun was burning us into the concrete. The race really should have started earler. Should have gotten a leg and shoulder massage.

Event comments:

There was not enough water for such a late starting race. When I finished, one of the coolers was empty, and all of the fruit was gone. I felt bad for the 50 finishers behind me that probably didn't get any water. The swim start was crazy, all of the women sat at the starting line cheering on the guys as we waited for every one of them to start and exit the swim. It was a huge waist of energy.
