Pre-race routine:

My typical bowl of oatmeal. Short bike ride to event. Ate Luna bar about 1.5 hours before swim. A little hungry by the time I got to swim.
Event warmup:

Didn't do the swim - too chilly, plus I would have been out for 1.5 hours before I started! Sat rather than stand in line for 1 hour!
Swim
  • 13m 19s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 40s / 100 meters
Comments:

Good! Happy to not have been passed. Got one big gulp of water as I passed a guy next to me. Pleased with swim - stayed calm, but pushed myself, no need to rest at end of lanes, did front crawl the whole time, maintained good breathing.
What would you do differently?:

Take more Master Swim lessons this winter! A little more food .5 hour before swim.
Transition 1

Bike
  • 43m 37s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.51 mile/hr
Comments:

chilly ride with strong north wind (13mph into wind, 21mph with). Added blue vest over tri suit, which made me comfortable, but not too warm. Ate one packet of Cliff chews during ride, drank about half my Nuun bottle.
What would you do differently?:

get aero bars

Comments:

Run

  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Speed work is paying off! Rosie ran the last 20 m with me!
What would you do differently?:

Push a bit harder
Post race
Warm down:

grabbed some food (wished they offered vegetarian sandwiches in addition to the chicken)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

WIND! and my swimming skills - getting better, but certainly can improve

Event comments:

I like doing the race since it is at my Y and only a mile from my house. I love the tie-dye shirts and seeing lots of people I know. Some day when I do the REDMAN tri, I will be sad that this is usually on the same weekend. I am not crazy about the snake swim, but there isn't any helping that. I need to figure out my start time and not stand in line the whole time.
