Swim
Comments: The was my first swim with a deep water start. Luckily they didn't keep us treading water for long. I felt like I moved along pretty well but had trouble seeing the turn buoys and the finish due to the sun. I think I wasted a lot of time siting. Swim got very crowded on the last 200 as the Oly and Sprint merged back together. Felt like I was constantly bumping into others for the entire swim. What would you do differently?: More OWS practice and goggles with tinted lenses. Continue to work on basic fundamentals of technique. Transition 1
Comments: Got to my bike quickly and made my way out of transition quickly. Did a flying mount using the rubber band trick for the first time in a race, which worked well. Only tricky part was that the distance from the mount line to the right hand turn onto the main road seemed really short. What would you do differently?: Not much other than continue to practice my flying mounts. Bike
Comments: My goal was to keep my average cruising speed at 20 mph which I was able to do for most of the course. I began to run out of steam over the last couple of miles as I hit a little bit of a head wind on Nasa Parkway. My calves also felt like they wanted to cramp up. I was really pleased with my performance as this was my best bike finish and it was something that I had worked on all summer. What would you do differently?: It would have been nice to have been able to see my cadence but my cadence sensor was acting up. Continue to work on bike. Transition 2
Comments: Very smooth transition. 4th in my age group. What would you do differently?: No changes. Run
Comments: Very pleased with my run. Pretty hot so I used all of the aid stations to get water to dump on my head and back. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and cooled off with water until I found the family. Snacked on watermelon until transition opened. What limited your ability to perform faster: The slow swim time most negatively impacted my final time and position. This will need to be my priority over the next six months. Event comments: Overall, I was very pleased with my performance, not just for this race, but also for my re-entry to triathlons this summer. I successfully used the Tejas Tri as an evaluation, made changes to my training, and executed at this race. I'll probably do this race again next year. My only complaints were the crowded swim course and the tight bottleneck between the bike entrance/exit from the transition and the main road. Also, having the bikers cross the run course caused some confusion. Last updated: 2010-08-18 12:00 AM

Got up at 4:30 and had oatmeal, a boiled egg, yogurt, and juice. Loaded up my bike and left about 5:15. Got to Clear Lake around 5:50. Plenty of room in transition to set up my stuff. After I got my chip, I headed over to the swim start to hang out.
I was at least able to get in the water and swim about 50 yards before they started lining up the first wave. I was in the last wave so I had to wait about 35 min.
