Swim
Comments: The water was really murky, I could barely see a few feet in front. It was an open water start, and I treaded water for about five minutes before I heard the bang. There was no count down, they started the race with a bang and it caught majority off guard including myself. Start area was big, so there wasn't much crowding in the beginning like most swims. Waves were non-existent so sighting wasn't a that big of a problem, although I always have trouble sighting. What would you do differently?: practice swimming and SIGHTING!!! Transition 1
Comments: The transition area was right next to the water so there wasn't much of a run into the transition. Transition area was concrete so I didn't have to wash down my feet. Belt on, helmet on, shades on, and I was out of there. Bike
Comments: Never did a bike course with so much turns, I felt like I was prepping for a turn every minute. There were strong headwinds and a pretty good hill. The entrance to the second lap was covered with nothing but potholes and cracks in the ground. I missed the entrance to the second lap, like I said before the bike course was confusing. After I missed the second lap, I came to a complete stop and back tracked to the entrance which ruined my cadence and pace. When I first saw my bike time, I was in shock of how slow I went, but after looking at everyone elses bike times, I wasn't the only one. The fastest biker averages 22.6, so my 19.6 is in perspective since I usually average 2-3 mph slower than the bike leaders. What would you do differently?: Course maps weren't available prior to event... which was really weird. Usually I ride the course before the race but wasn't able to for this one. Transition 2
Comments: This race had two separate transition areas which was interesting. The helpers were on it as well. It looked like it went smooth. Run
Comments: Didn't expect hills so when I saw that the run course had hills, I thought I was in for big trouble. I was surprised that I ran a 7:08 pace with all those hills and turns. Running is my achilles heel and I was in shock that nobody passed me on the run. After seeing the guy in front of my walk up the last hill, I did the same. That hill had to be the steepest hill in a race I ever saw. What would you do differently?: train running hills. Post race
Warm down: drink 10 cups of water/gatorade. What limited your ability to perform faster: not knowing the course Event comments: toughest sprint tri in oahu in my opinion. Last updated: 2010-08-18 12:00 AM

I woke up late as usual, drank two cups of coffee and ate three bananas and left for the tri in a rush. Did not train for this race at all as I was still recovering from the tinman.
After discovering that it was an open water start, I didn't bother to warm up since I knew that I'd be treading water for five minutes.
