Pre-race routine:

woke up, ate oatmeal toast and a banana. Stretched for about 15 minutes.
Event warmup:

jogged one lap around magic island
Swim
  • 28m 14s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

swim was smooth almost no current. Little current on the way back, but the most annoying this was the jet skis. breathing in all the crap coming from the exhaust was pissing me off. I stood up way too early on the way back in so I swam more till it got about knee deep in water.
What would you do differently?:

get out a little later.
Transition 1
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

transition was quite a bit of ways from the swim exit. the ground was covered with sharp gravel.
Bike
  • 1h 07m 7s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 22.22 mile/hr
Comments:

bike course was smooth. roads were a little wet but since there was no traffic it didn't really matter. Got off to a quick start on the bike and spent the first few minutes warming the legs up. Once I finished my gel pack, I started to pick up the speed and cadence. The course had hardly any sharp turns with two hairpin turns. There was s long and steady hill towards the halfway point. I encountered headwinds going back to nimitz coming back from sand island. It was overcast for most of the bike which was good. One the way back to magic island, I cramped up really bad by restaurant row. The cramp was so bad that I actually had to pull over to the side and wait it out. First charlie horse cramp in a race and it was at the worse time. I was on track to my goal of 1:05 for the bike. After pulling over and massaging my calf, I spun out from restaurant row all the way back to magic island. I was in disbelief because I felt so good throughout the race until that point.
Transition 2
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

Got off just inches from the dismount line. Was pretty close to getting a penalty. Spent some time trying to shake the cramp off in the transition area.
Run
  • 53m 33s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

spent the first 1/4 mile walking. Got encouragement from the crowd to keep running but the cramp in my right calf wasn't going away. After getting yelled at from my friend, I decided to run with the leg misfiring. Legs started to fire around mile 1 and from there on I was running fine. The skies cleared up and the sun came out and it started to get pretty hot. running through kakaako was irritating since there was so much turns in that section. Lots of aid stations throughout the run.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around magic island and stretched

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Event comments:
