Swim
Comments: This swim is going to make any other open water swim look like a cake walk. Later I found out that they pulled 109 people from the water and that the Coast Guard was very close to pulling us all out because of the conditions. The waves were supposed to be 5 minutes apart, but they shortened them to 2 just to get us all in since the conditions were worsening. I was so scared the day before, but for some reason, I was pretty calm during the race and had fun in the water. It ended up being my favorite part! What would you do differently?: Work on my breathing. I lifted my head straight up and looked ahead sighting instead of my regular bilateral breathing. But, considering the conditions, I'm not to beat up about it. Transition 1
Comments: It took a long time, but I wanted to make sure I was calm and remembered everything. It's something to work on for next time. What would you do differently?: Move a little faster. Bike
Comments: I'm learning to love the bike. ;-) What would you do differently?: Drink more Gatorade on the bike. Gotta figure out why my lower back hurts so darn bad after 10 miles. Transition 2
Comments: Very unusual for my T2 time to be faster than T1. I was pretty pleased overall. Run
Comments: My first couple miles were faster than my average, but my legs were very tight. I was OK on miles 3 and 4 and dying the rest of the run. I see more bricks in my future... What would you do differently?: Uh, run more. I need some serious work in this area. Post race
Warm down: Hugged my family and team, ate peanut butter crackers and water. What limited your ability to perform faster: I really think I did my best on this race. It was my first race at this distance, and only my second time ever running 6 miles, so it all comes back to training. More bike/run bricks so my legs get used to that feeling and more running in general to build confidence. Event comments: Loved it! I'm planning my next Oly! Last updated: 2006-02-09 12:00 AM

Nibbled on a peanut butter sandwich. It took me 2 hours to eat that thing, I was so nervous. Had to set up my transition area between 5-7 a.m., even though my wave didn't go off until 9 a.m. Had a cup of coffee and sipped some Gatorade. Talked with my team.
Hopped in the water to try and get more comfortable with the waves. I was so freaked out the day before during the TNT practice swim that I couldn't even put my face in the water at first, so I knew I needed get in and swim around. I found out later that the waves were 3-4 feet high and many people opted to bail on the whole race because the water was so scary. Ignorance is bliss.
