Swim
Comments: I did this race as practice for IMAZ. I was not out to set any records or to actually race. Wanted to have a mass start and try to keep my pace around 2/100.I did pretty well the first mile. Looked at my watch and finished the first mile in 34 mins. Happy with that, but at about 1.2 miles I got a calf cramp like nothing I had experienced before. My calf was locked and I couldnt move my leg. Flipped on my back and tried to relax and shake it out. Didnt work. I thought about bagging it...but then thought...you wouldnt do this in IMAZ. Damn these kind of cramps are painful. Called a kayak over and he handed me a noodle:). I was able to bend over it and massage my calf with 2 hands . Didnt take to long to get my leg to bend. I thanked my kayak volunteer and proceeded. I didnt kick for the next 500 or so because I could feel my leg cramp. I managed to finish but not what I had planned. What would you do differently?: Not ride 175 miles the week before swimming 2 miles!!! Post race
Warm down: Had pizza and some gatorade. UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Event comments: This is a really fun race. They give nice tech shirts and a really nice bag. They had a DJ and there were a lot of kayaks in the water. I would highly recommend this race as a warm up for anyone doing a HIM or IM. They also have a one mile swim. They initially had me as DFL in the one mile swim but I emailed the RD and they changed it. They were very apologetic!!! Last updated: 2010-08-22 12:00 AM

I was glad this race didnt start til 10:15. MY kind of race!!!!. Got up around 7am. Had a hardboiled egg and a bagel and of course coffee. Drove to Salem with plenty of time to spare.
Drank some gatorade and took a salt stick tab 1/2 hour before the race. Also ate a granola bar.
I didnt warm up at all which was probably a mistake. I had a big build week prior to this race and was fatigued. I stood around and talked to Kathy G, Kevin, and Mina and Jonah.
