Pre-race routine:

Arrived at 6:15, walked 1/4 mile w/ Blane to T2 to drop off my run gear and went back to the car. Car was gone. Miscommunication with Shane so had to walk back 1/4 mile to the shuttles. Took shuttle to T1, found Blane and got his phone. Called Shane who was outside of T1. Asked where the car was so I could get my bike gear and wetsuit. He informed me it was back at T2. He parked it there and took the shuttle. We ran back to the shuttle, caught a bus to T2, ran the 1/4 mile to the car, got my bags, ran back to the shuttle and rode it back to T1...full sweat at this point. My wave started at 8:00, it's now 8:05.
Event warmup:

After calculating the correct swim time since I missed my wave I hit 6:25:11 without the break on the run, 6:34:11 with break.
Swim
  • 48m 59s
  • 1931 meters
  • 02m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

Jumped in with a later wave that had similar swim caps..better to ask forgiveness than permission. Asked the kid what time it was and he said 8:17 so I think we hit the water around 8:25/30ish. New it was going to be hot since I was starting later. Nobody said anything and I was off with the young ones.
Transition 1
  • 05m 42s
Comments:

Took my time here, had strippers which was a first. Dumped out all of my food and made sure I took everything. Loaded and extra tube and air just to be safe. Not my usual 3 min or less but felt comfortable since it was going to be a long day.
Bike
  • 2h 42m 50s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.63 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 04m 24s
Comments:

Took my time here. Normally, the faster of my transitions. Sat down and put on socks which is out of the norm. Stomach really bugging as I stood up. Looked for the can and didn't see one so I skipped it.
Run
  • 2h 43m 16s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 12m 28s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

I was 10 lbs heavier than last yr and only put in 1/4 of the run training this yr compared to last..due to the hamstring injury. I believe that the nutrition this yr was much better planned and helped the performance.
Post race
Event comments:

Grabbed some water and picked up my bags and went to find offield and Omar to watch Blane finish his first HIM. Great day.

Course: 1 loop, felt good throughout..except for stomach issues. Drank Nuun tablets and water throughout. Still had a full waterbottle of gatorade when I finished. I decided to stick with the water and tablets. I took 8 Gu's along and took them in 20 min increments. Never ate so much before on the bike but thought after last years run performance this is the segment where I failed.

Course: 2 loops with 2 big hiils. Started out and immediately nature called. I removed the 9 min from my run time. I know I shouldn't but I don't think I should be held accountable for that pain. I crossed over the oncoming traffic from the runners completing their first loop and jumped in the can at the 3/4 mile. After that it was a great day. I blew up in napa at mile 7 so I was looking to just get there and see what happened. I hit mile 2 and walked though the aid station and had a cookie and walked to let the liquid settle. I made sure not to take in too much this time so as not to get the sloshy stomach. I picked it up and ran to the turn off into the woods. The trail route was hot and downhill. I made sure to run all downhills (hit and 8:05 pace at one point) and then walked Quadzilla. At the top I was talking to myself to start the motor and get to running. I ran back to the cement and the flats to the last hill before the turnaround. Hit the turnaround and walked around the second half of the loop taking in more liquids. Started to run the flat and hit the downhill. Ran to the dirt and followed three chicks who were running flats and walking hills. Ran with them for a while until they started walking the flats. I started to run again and hit quadzilla. Walked that and ran with a guy who was on the same loop as me. He was struggling, we ran to the second hill and let me go. I walked up to the halfway point and started to run (mile 9) I cramped at this point and walked the remainder of the hill. At the top I saw Omar, LG, and Offield. Omar walked the turn with me and got me going with a pep talk and a few choice workds. He ran with me to the final 400 yrds before he had to turn off. I rounded the shoot and finished. Loved the push at the end I would've walked the last 1.5 if they weren't there.
