Pre-race routine:

I don't ever advise this...but I didn't have a place to stay the night before, so when I got home from work on Friday, I went right to bed. Around midnight I got up, and started packing for the race. I had a 4 1/2 hour drive from Atlanta to Tybee. I knew going in that this probably won't be my best race because I'll be cooped up in the car for a awhile. Well, I got out onto the road at 1:30am and headed down to Tybee. Got there around 6:30a and went to get my chip and number. Took a quick 15 minute nap before heading out to meet some friends. Also...I didn't exactly eat correctly the day before. We had an office party and I loaded up on fried foods and chips (sorry I can't turn down that stuff). Well...to make a long story short, to do everything you can possibly do wrong the night before a marathon, I PR'd with a 4:34:15.

Comments:

I'm training for a 50K which is going to be at the end of February, so I was primarily using this as a long run beforehand. I do combined run/walk since I'm much faster than trying to run the full distance. I stuck to a 4:1 ratio the entire time. Overall the run felt great!
What would you do differently?:

I think I would think ahead down the road and get a hotel for the night before.
Post race
Warm down:

Not much of a warm down other than getting in my car and driving back to Atlanta (yes...I'm a bit crazy!)

Event comments:

I had a great time doing this race. As I said earlier I was primarily using this as a long run before my 50K, but for some strange reason, I PR'd. I couldn't believe when I crossed the finish line, but it was all worth it, knocking 5 minutes off my previous best in Chicago.

I don't know if I'll run this as a marathon again, but would like to do the half marathon. I'm trying to run all 50 states, so now I have Georgia crossed off.
