Pre-race routine:

Could sleep the two nights before, so I was sleep deprived. Had trained well the week before.

A friend drove, so I slept in the car for 30 minutes. I tried to get myself ready, and barely made it to the start before the gun went off.
Event warmup:

Swim
  • 11m 44s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had a great swim.
I just powered right through it, leaving the next person well over 200yds behind me.

This time INCLUDES the 200yd run to transition.
What would you do differently?:

If I'd slept, and shown up early, I might've even had a better swim.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 41m 43s
  • 14.4 miles
  • 20.71 mile/hr
Comments:

I GOT LOST!
I went at least 2-5 miles out of the way. I was well in the lead of the whole darn race, but I didn't put a sticker on my helmet or bike (note: I was there late and hadn't had any sleep), and I was so far ahead that the folks didn't know I was part of the race. Some of the cars that mark the path weren't even there yet, and I clearly hadn't looked at the map.
I got lost, on an island. :(

However, the course is NICE. Perfect for my style of biking. I went FAST. Faster than ever before. I learned about cadence this race, and once I got back on track, I passed somewhere around 30-50 ppl. I was cranking it. I was unstoppable... except for my lack of direction.
What would you do differently?:

Not get lost.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 25m 54s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 21s  min/mile
Comments:

I was beat and demoralized by getting lost, and my legs had very little left in them. But I kept at it.
I'm just not a fast runner, but I did manage to pass TWO PEOPLE! I have no idea how that happened. Then, of course, I got passed by two people. But that's great for me.
What would you do differently?:

Not do a longer bike course.
Post race
Warm down:

What limited your ability to perform faster:

sleep deprivation. getting lost.

Event comments:

I am doing this race again next year. I am coming to win it.
