Swim
Comments: I was tired when I did this race. I was about to give up at the beginning. But I was with friends, and when we started, I kept up with Steve F, who was out in front in the beginning. I tried to go head to head with him, but I was too beat, so I just stayed on his feet. When I sighted, I'd crash into him, and he's pull away for a second. Then I'd catch him again, and stay calm until I'd try to sight/pass and I'd crash into him, and didn't have enough in the tank to really take off. I stook by him until the last buoy, when I went right smack into his legs. He then took four BIG BIG kicks and went to the right. I swam straight. I stopped sighting well, and he got just a few more seconds ahead of me. At the beach, I started some butterfly, and caught up just a bit. It was fun, and I didn't end up too tired. What would you do differently?: Prep better the night before (sleep). Transition 1
Comments: I was totally disoriented at transition, but now, I've gotten better at doing it without thinking. I did it on auto-pilot, but still couldn't figure out how to get my wetsuit off. Bike
Comments: I didn't try too hard here. I was just coasting. I was surprised I only got passed twice. The guy behind me made up a lot of time on me, but didn't catch me. What would you do differently?: Not get sick the week before? Transition 2
Comments: Fine transition. Not my best, but auto-pilot again. Run
Comments: Ran fast. Kept up on the balls of my feet. Doing intervals has helped! What would you do differently?: not get lost Post race
Warm down: nothing What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of training and lack of sleep Event comments: I like this race. That's why year after year, it's on my calendar. Last updated: 2010-08-26 12:00 AM

My wife showed up!
I did the same regular race routine. Set up. Float around. Chat.
I was, however, sick the two weeks before this race and had barely managed a workout in 14 days. I hadn't been on my bike since a month before.
The day before I had talked to the race director about canceling.
