Overall Rank = 93/311
Age Group = Male 45-49
Age Group Rank = 8/23
Pre-race routine:

Got there early. Set up.
Event warmup:

Few strides and some stretching
Swim
  • 35m 8s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Terrible swim for me. 9 minutes slower than last race in Chattanooga. I never got into a rhythm with the wave start. Probably about 100 in my wave and just seemed to constantly be running into someone. Was hoping to be in the 28-29 minute range.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work into the swim gradually. HR spiked early and I never settled down
Transition 1
  • 02m 26s
Comments:

Solid transition given how I felt coming out of the water
Bike
  • 1h 08m 26s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.79 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike for me. Worked on pacing with Powermeter.Watts were still a little lower than what I hoped to average but a solid effort. Added work on the bike the last 6 weeks seems to be paying off.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Was a little slow here it seemed.
Run
  • 52m 29s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

Screwed around with my watch leaving T2 and lost some time. Overall time was about what I expected given limited running due to calf strain. Calf held up with only a little tightness. Pushed the last mile to come in under 2:40. Walked a couple of water stations and should have pushed the pace earlier-guess I was a little tentative due to previous calf problem.
What would you do differently?:

Hopefully get in more running now that calf seems improved.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, packed up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Terrible swim-totally a mental thing. Plenty of swim training just need to get accustom to swimming in a pack.

Event comments:

Well run race. Plenty of enthusiastic volunteers on the run and bike course. However, I was surprised at the limited support in the water. Maybe 4-5 jet skis, a powerboat or 2 and a paddleboarder. Not many eyes to cover a pretty big area-just my opinion.
Weather was nice although I understand that it was alot cooler than most years
