Age Group Rank = 14/19
Pre-race routine:

Slept very little - super excited, Dad was in town. Ate pasta the night before, and creal the morning of, about 1.5 hours before the race.
Event warmup:

Stretching and then standing in line for about 45 minutes.
Swim
  • 17m 16s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Used the Swedish goggles that I have been using since I started swimming - bad idea. They always take a few tries to get a good seal, and of course they leaked the whole time. Lost a contact because of that.
What would you do differently?:

Use goggles that are more consistent.
Transition 1
  • 03m 7s
Comments:

Running shoes with regular MTB pedals. It worked for my first race. Also, had number pinned to ass of shorts - volunteer didn't see it and said I needed my number on my bike, so I ripped it off. Then he said that would have been fine and pinned it back on me. Cost me 45 seconds, easy.
What would you do differently?:

Know the rules about my number display.
Bike
  • 56m 20s
  • 14 miles
  • 14.91 mile/hr
Comments:

Not bad for a MTB. Was passed a least by 20 riders, maybe 30.
What would you do differently?:

Uh, road bike for sure. Shoes too. Also, spinning did not translate well to actual riding. Need more time on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

Rode bike in running shoes, so time saved there, which I needed from getting killed on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Not much here. Pretty good transition. Prob use quick laces instead of tying them.
Run
  • 27m 12s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Took it easy getting off the bike. Didn't really push hard. Had a short conversation with a fellow first timer.
What would you do differently?:

Probably no talking - wasted energy, even thought I love to meet people. Also with that short of a run I need to run faster. Maybe take it easy for the first mile, but give it all I got after that. HEAD BAND!
Post race
Warm down:

Geeked out from first race excitement. Felt great - such a high! Stretched a little, drank plenty of water, and sat in the shade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not having a road bike for sure. Not getting a good fit with the goggles cost me at least 45 seconds or more. And not being confident with the run cost me a little time. I think I should be dead after coming across the line and I had a lot left in me.

Event comments:

Great race for me as a beginner! Everyone was happy and enjoying the day.
