Swim
Comments: Great swim much faster than my training swims. It was a 50M pool with a dive start. Last couple lengths walked a bit because traffic was getting backed up. Took a good heel kick to the jaw but that was just a good wakeup. What would you do differently?: Nothing I was real happy with this. I'm sure with more practice my swim will be stronger. Transition 1
Comments: Long run from the indoor pool outside across the deck for the outdoor pool, up the stairs down the sidewalk to transition area. Decided to walk this so I didnt slip and end the day early. Got to my stuff and quickly realized I made a BIG mistake. I took my socks out of my shoes so I could wear them from the parking lot and forgot to put them into my bike shoes. After an explicative or 2 the guy next to me realized what happened and handed me an extra pair he had. He's a lifesaver. Sat down put the socks on and the shoes made sure I had my inhaler and got to the exit. What would you do differently?: Don't forget socks. Its amazing I've put on my rolled UA socks 20 times because I was nervous I would not get them on then I go and forget them. Other than that everything was exactly where I wanted it. Bike
Comments: Good ride I executed the way I wanted to. Small ring up the hills and middle gear on the small grade climbs. Hammer the downhills and flats. I came in with the goal of dropping 1 rider. I dropped 8 very pleased with how far my biking has come. Much more comfortable riding in aero also. This was a very pleasant course out into the country pretty much the same kind of roads I train on. What would you do differently?: Bring my Garmin so I know where I am. Was having some problem with sattalites and didnt have time to mess with it. Transition 2
Comments: Got the bike racked changed up the shoes. Took some time to have a GU and a drink of water. Hit the rescue inhaler packed that in the pocket. Grabbed a water bottle to go and hit the pavement. What would you do differently?: Happy with this one it actually went as planned. Just need to practice it more and get a routine so it becomes more automatic Run
Comments: Slow and painful. I did enjoy it more than any other 5k because I got to spend some time with Ric who decided to join me for a trip through campus. The plan was run as far as I could and walk for recovery. Intervals were out the window after that bike ride it was all about going until there was nothing left. What would you do differently?: I need to work on brick workouts more to get my legs used to switching from bike to run. I also need to continue to lose weight so I can run more. For my first race and my current physical condition I can't complain. I'm sure as I train it will get better. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and had some bananas and tea. What limited your ability to perform faster: My weight. As I continue to lose weight and find fitness these times will go down. Event comments: This race was great that U of I tri team did it right. Lots of volunteers always cheering for you as you come by. They got it running on time and everything was organized well. I will definitely try to be back for this one next year. Last updated: 2010-09-03 12:00 AM
