Swim
Comments: Happy with the swim, there were 3 in a lane starting at 5 sec intervals. I was last of therefore didnt have to worry about being caught quickly !! Decided to try not to panic and go off to quick. Settled into my stroke and stayed calm. Had predicted 9mins for swim so was happy with 7:43 (to the timing mat, actual swim was 6:44) What would you do differently?: Nothing, pretty happy with swim. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was still too slow, had decided to bike in cleats even though it was only 10 miles. Got tied in a knot putting on my tri-top :-( also took maybe 20-30 secs putting on bike gloves- wont bother with gloves for a sprint again. What would you do differently?: Wear tri-top in pool and not worry about looking like a "all the gear-no idea" person ! lol. Wont bother with gloves for a sprint again. I was raked 133 out of 145 for T1 !! Bike
Comments: Set off ok and got into a rhythm, passed about 4 and wasn't passed by any. Braver than some on the downhills :-) What would you do differently?: not a lot, maybe more speedwork in training. Transition 2
Comments: T2 also still to slow (126 out of 145) Might be time to get elastic laces.... What would you do differently?: May try to use elastic laces for next sprint race Run
Comments: Again tried to stop myself from going off too fast and blowing up ! Felt like I was crawling but was determined to keep going with no walking. Looked ahead for a target and slowly tried to reel them in. passed 3-4 people and wasn't passed by anyone ;-) What would you do differently?: Had planned to take a gel near the end of the bike and forgot, that might have helped take a little of the run time. Post race
Warm down: Collapsed and waited/cheered everyone coming in. What limited your ability to perform faster: age and fitness lol Event comments: Great race, delighted to have taken 8 mins (10% !) of my pb for this race. I didnt go flat out as it was a practise for my 70.3 the following week but very pleased with the time. I was hoping for 35mins on the bike and was a little disappointed with 37mins but as I got a 24min run when I was expecting 27mins it means I still had plenty in the legs so overall I am a happy bear :-) Only problem is I now have tonsillitis which may damage my chances of my 70.3 :-( Last updated: 2010-09-06 12:00 AM

Up at 07:00, took dog out for quick 1 mile walk.
Bowl of porridge and check I had everything (again !!)
The event is a small but very well organised event in the Cairngorm National Park. The swim is pool based which means there are small waves (12 people) starting at 10am until around 1pm so always something happening.
Down side is that if you have a fast predicted swim time you can be hanging around for ages waiting for your start.
