Total Time = 1h 10m 22s
Overall Rank = 19/152
Age Group = 50-59
Age Group Rank = 4/12
Pre-race routine:

Because they have the kids triathlon previous to the adults and they allow bike racking at the same time it's important to get there early to secure a good rack position. Then you sit around and wait 3 hours for the race to start.
Event warmup:

The only warm up I did was a 10 min. easy run.
Swim
  • 09m 35s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 17s / 100 meters
Comments:

This swim was short. I normally do ~13 min for 750. Although I think I would have done better than that today.
What would you do differently?:

Nuttun
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

There were no transition times. Not that it would have made a difference for me. (see overall comments)
What would you do differently?:

Had a little difficulty getting one of my shoes on, maybe make sure shoe is more open.
Bike
  • 34m 35s
  • 20 kms
  • 34.70 km/hr
Comments:

I knew I wasn't properly trained for sprint cycling. The first half a lap my legs were begging me to stop. The rest of the race they just begged me to ease up. I held my own till about 3/4 way through the race when a pack of about 6 guys blew by me. They were obviously drafting and two of them received penalties.
What would you do differently?:

Put in more high end training.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Again, I have difficulty getting one of my running shoes on. Cost me a few seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Be better prepared.
Run
  • 24m 10s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 50s  min/km
Comments:

I have been dealing with sciatica problems in my right leg so I knew this was not going to be a fast run. It took about a 1/2 k for the legs to feel ok but I could not stride out. Had to keep it to about a 3/4 stride. I still managed to pass about 4 on the run though.
What would you do differently?:

If I had the magic solution I would solve the sciatica issue.
Post race
Warm down:

None.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sciatica issues and lack of high end training.

Event comments:

I suppose this would be a good time to mention that as a well seasoned triathlete I made the most stupid mistake and forgot to put my timing chip on. Didn't realize it till I was 1/4 way through the run. Luckily they do a visual time check at the end as well so I did get my overall time but no splits except for what was on my own watch. Although I'm not happy with the 4th place AG placement it's probably a good thing as it would have been awkward to dispute a podium position without actual timing.
