Run
Comments: Sadly because Tony's allergies turned out to be the flu, I had to go right from racing to mommy duty. Then I got sick myself so I didn't get much time to think about the race. The following three days were a blur. However, I do have these overall thoughts about the race and my performance. - it was awesome. A very different race experience doing the Disney marathon. Crowds, scenery and fun almost every mile. Worth adding to anyone's marathon list. The course went through all 4 parks. - lots of Disney characters, unicyclists, old cars, acrobatics, and cheering/clapping/yelling fans and volunteers - I enjoyed and it was worth going slow. We took pictures, looked at stuff and had fun. Most of the goofy runners took pics the second day and we all wore smiles. - My quads started talking to me around mile 12. By mile 15, I hit the med tent for some bio freeze. Ahhhh! And again around mile 22 (I think). Also got a band-aid for a blister that started around mile 8. Stupid to wait so long. - Cardio was excellent - barely broke a sweat. - Had a blast running w/ my hubby and super proud of him for making it through the race w/ a bum knee, lack of training and early flu symptoms. - I am super proud that I did it. 39.3 miles in 2 days. What a blast! i HATED the super early race starts but things went smoothly and it was kind of cool running the dark. - very happy for my foot taping. It did not experience any foot pain before, during or after the race. - fun waving to myself over the Jumbotron at mile 20.6 I had a great time. I was so happy to be done. I'd love to do some of the other Disney races and maybe either/both of these again. Actually I'd love to run these races again when my kids are old enough. And it would be neat to go back on our 50th anniversary and have Tony and I run the marathon. Hey we'll only be in our early 70s. :-) What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: Walked around nursing the quads. Took an ice bath. Spent the afternoon at the movie theater w/ the kids watching Yogi Bear then the next two days walking around the parks. It was actually a really good recovery exercise. I felt fine by Weds. except for the flu issue. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing Event comments: Great race support although a little skimpy on the food during and after the race. That would be my only complaint. Water and aid stations were quite plentiful. Super organization by Disney and the transportation was easy. I would recomment this race to anyone. It does put a smile on your face. After running the half on Saturday, we chilled around the resort w/ the kids. We went to the pool and had a low key dinner at the room.
Tried to get to bed early by even 9pm was still only about 5/6 hrs. of sleep.
More sleep and a later arrival. We are already learning how to arrive for a Disney race. We didn't get to corrals til about 5:15am and then sat down in the back waiting for the anthem and fireworks.
I was more awake and ready to race this morning. Good music pumping over the speakers and fireworks for each wave. I think the relief and worry about wondering if Tony's knee would hold up was over. I was ready to have fun. Camera and snacks were packed.
