Swim
Comments: Didn't push too hard on the swim. The wetsuit made a huge difference. Didn't have any problems with water in my goggles or sighting. Switched to breast-stroke a few times. The wind created some chop, causing some drinking of the lake water. Overall for my first open water swim of any real distance, I was very pleased. What would you do differently?: For my first swim, I'm not sure I would do much differently. Next race, hopefully I will have had time to concentrate on my form and endurance. Transition 1
Comments: I was very gassed after the swim, ran by my rack before I realize I passed it. Took a long time getting out of the wetsuit and into my bike shoes. Spent more time trying to dry off that I probably needed too. What would you do differently?: Not worry as much about getting super dry, lay out my stuff better. Since it was my frist time doing this, I wasn't really sure of a routine, this will improve. Bike
Comments: I could have pushed myself more on the bike, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel on the run so I probably tried to hold back and save energy. I ate a gu about half way through the course. The wind on some of the open stretches was a little rough. Since it was such a short course, it felt a little crowded during certain portions. There was a very long transition, had to run probably 100 yds with the bike, up a hill before the mounting point. What would you do differently?: Probably try to push a little bit more. Transition 2
Comments: I forgot to untie my running shoes the last time I ran, took a while to untie them and get my socks and shoes on. Forgot to put on my hat, didn't end up needing it. What would you do differently?: Untie my shoes before the race or get zip-tie things for my shoes. Lay stuff out better. Run
Comments: I think I drank too much before on the bike, other than that, the ran felt good. I thought I was running at a much slower pace than I was. What would you do differently?: Not much, the run went pretty well for a first attempt at a 5k, muchless a 5k during a tri. I will know more with more races under my belt. Post race
Event comments: This was a very good race for a first triathlon. A shorter bike course, warm water and I was able to use a wet-suit. I was very pleased. Last updated: 2010-09-07 12:00 AM

Woke up around 7, ate, relaxed, looked at the swim course, tried to not stess out.
Saturday, Nick and I went into the water to try out the wetsuits and acclimate myself to open water swimming. Practiced sighting and following someone in the water. Event day, I mostly just stretched and didn't do much warm up. Swam a little waiting in the water before the start.
