Pre-race routine:

got up around 6am and checked the weather. decided we just couldn't bail on another race. bill checked the day's conditions against what we raced in last year, and it was about the same (cold and rainy). wasn't anywhere near as rainy as two weeks ago when we bailed on the ironcrotch ride. overall, the weather ended up being better than last year. had some coffee and oatmeal, layered up, loaded up the car, and off we went.
Event warmup:

we both did a couple warm up laps (not on the course, mind you) and did some stretching. bill set up the transition area.
Run
  • 25m 10s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

i was pretty tired on the run. it was so cold and i think i took off my layers too early before the race start (partly because the race started nearly 15 minutes late). took a while to get warmed up, and by the time i felt good, i was done!
What would you do differently?:

since we were racing as a team, it wouldn't have been a problem to keep my layers on until right before the start, and toss them to bill. that's what i should have done. still, sub 9 is a good pace for me.

Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

bill is really good at hoping off a moving bike after racing cyclocross. again, a kiss, and exchanging of the chip and the car keys :)

Post race
Warm down:

hung out for the awards ceremony. this year we both got medals that are engraved (last year it was a wierd plaque thing). we didn't bring the camera, since the pictures would have looked just like last years (cold, grey, drizzly). check out our album from last year! ;) hung out with the other folks from the country cycle tri team (3 of whom also place in various age groups).

Event comments:

this is a fun, low-key race held in a very pretty location (same park as the great pumpkin chase).

its fun being able to watch other racers (i need to volunteer at a race!). seeing the fast elite racers come in was great...but i was really REALLY inspired by the guy who came in in 2:26. he was the last in on both runs and rode a recumbent. bill overheard him say 'i do walk, bike, DONE.' hee hee. anyway, he was still out there in the rain and wind for over two hours and stuck with it. he rules.
