Swim
Comments: Worst swim I have EVER experienced. Seriously, I think I almost drowned a few times. I did a lot better than most people I must admit, but it took a lot out of me. I had to concentrate SO hard on getting my head out of the water. I didn't navigate well, I had my eye on a buoy, but it was the wrong one. They were so close together, and the swell was pretty high. I had to really think about what I was doing. Almost drowned a girl too, oops. Swam right over the top of her. There were SO many people being dragged out of the water in the swim. At the same time, so glad that we still swam instead of ran! What would you do differently?: Even if Santa didn't get me the wetsuit, I'll be getting one before the OD. I don't think I can do 1500m open water without one if the water is going to be like that. Normally, I wouldn't be concerned, but after that... Transition 1
Comments: The wind was terrible, I almost ran into a barrier trying to clip in, and then on the way out, right into the wind. As I got further along the first 5km, I got slower and slower, but thankfully the home stretch of the laps was WITH the wind. Hitting almost 40kph made things much better :) What would you do differently?: Not a lot. Somehow, I need to speed these up. Not stand there and have a drink and stuff. Or sit down to put my shoes on... lol. Working on it. Bike
Comments: That wind almost knocked me off my bike a couple of times. I didn't do too badly in it thankfully. What would you do differently?: Not a lot... i had a girl overtake me on a mountain bike and realised I was cruising too much, so sped up again... oops. Transition 2
Comments: I still sit down to put my shoes on. I guess it's better than falling down... What would you do differently?: I am just going to do transition after transition in the park one day. One lap riding, one lap running, to get used to changing over. It's gotta get better. Run
Comments: Friggin wind. Started raining. Got smashed by waves along the beach path. Maaaan.... What would you do differently?: Just suck it up and run. I ran a lot more than the last tri, but still didn't run the whole distance.... bah. Post race
Warm down: Just a walk back to the car. It started raining pretty badly as soon as I had finished, so we just headed back. Had some gatorade and powerade, had some food, Subway for lunch, and I was all good. What limited your ability to perform faster: I know everyone has the same conditions, but I really struggled. I haven't done a LOT of open water swimming, nor riding in shit conditions. At least it gives me more to work on. Event comments: The race itself was ok. The weather was the worst. I presently can't upload photos (BT has some issues) but I will do that later. Last updated: 2010-09-09 12:00 AM

Had a nice long walk to the event (parking was pretty crappy!!) Checked in my bike, got numbered (was glad I didn't have to line up at the registration tent!!) and then headed off to have a look at the water.
I kind of wish I didn't...
Anna and I decided to jump in the water until our race start... Man, I wish I had a wetsuit. It was freezing, disgusting, choppy...
It was going to be terrible.
Had to have a bit of a think about the strategy, the "waves" were going, the wind, etc... gross.
