Swim
  • 23m 53s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

Waves were three minutes appart. I was running into a lot of people from the previous wave. It would be better to start by age group.
Transition 1
  • 04m 17s
Comments:

Slow transition. I left my jersey off because I wanted to keep it dry on a cool day. Putting it on and making sure I had my food packed took too much time. I started trying to put arm warmers on, but that wasn't working with wet skin. Luckily I didn't need them anyway.
What would you do differently?:

Wear jersey under wetsuit. Have a dry tight fitting jacket ready in case of rain/cold. Get a waterproof bag to keep gear dry when its raining.
Bike
  • 1h 14m 34s
  • 25.1 miles
  • 20.20 mile/hr
Comments:

Much faster than my previous race. Trying to eat Cliff bar during the ride is too complicated -- need something simpler. Some back pain during the ride.
What would you do differently?:

Plan food better. Get bike fit adjusted better.
Transition 2
  • 02m 10s
Run
  • 57m 31s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs felt burned from the beginning. Pace was much slower than training runs. Rain felt good. I thought the 2-3% hill would be no problem, but I felt my thighs starting to cramp. Had to jog very slowly up the hill.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks training. More hill work.

Event comments:

I thought this race was better than I expected. It is not as highly organized as the Pleasant Prairie tri, but I think it is well enough staffed. Check-in combined with the pasta buffet at Gordy’s was a nice way to start. The course talk was a little light on details but covered the essentials.

Day of the race, we arrived about 5:15 and got easy parking across the street from the transition area. The swim went well. I think age group waves instead of by bib number would have been better though. The bike was well marked with volunteers at every intersection that could be trouble with cars. There was some traffic on the course, but it was light and courteous. The run is painfully hilly but plenty of water stations with attentive volunteers.

Overall it is a beutiful course for all three legs of the race. I hope to do it again next year.
