As I already said, great course!

My first sub 60min 10K

What would you do differently?:

I wouldn't change anything except maybe carry a bottle of water if it was warmer or sunny.

Event comments:

One downside though, was the water stations. This was a pretty big race. About 2000 runners in the 5k and 10k combined. There were water stations at mile 1, 2, 3, and 5 (3 mile repeat) Each station was one small table with only 2-3 people filling cups from gallon jugs of water. The stations were just too small and crowded. I decided to skip the water until I got to mile 5 and everyone was spread out enough that i didn't have to fight for to get to the table. So, I got about 2 oz of water during the entire race. (at least it was cool and overcast)

Then, at the finish, after the chip return, there was no water at all. I looked all over and finally found the water table. It was empty and sitting over a pile of empty boxes and bottles. I finally got a bottle of water at the expo/post race celebration about 1/4 mile away on the Santa Monica Pier.

So, next year, please have more water!!

Course: This is a great course! It is sort of point to point. The start and finish are about a mile and a half apart. So it is not quite out and back. We passed the finish line at just about 2 miles and the course started to be very slightly uphill for the next 2 miles. It was so slight, I didn't really notice it till someone ran up beside me and said, "When is this hill going to end?" (just checked the Garmin it went from 5o ft. to 263 ft. over 2.2 miles) Then, at the 4 mile mark, we hit the turn around and it was downhill all the way to the finish!
