Swim
Comments: So this is where old Waffle House bit me. I felt like puking bacon the whole last 200m. It was horrible. Took me out of my rhythm and 3 or 4 people passed me. Ugh. Back to my routine this weekend in Katy. I've also decide I don't like the pool setting. Something about it just didn't sit well with me. Well besides the breakfast. What would you do differently?: Better pre race nutrition. Transition 1
Comments: Hit the door from the natatorium to the open air and boom, cold. Transition was better than my last race but that wouldn't have been hard to do. A little bit of fumbling with the shoes due to frustration over the swim but overall okay. What would you do differently?: Dry off my feet because it came back to bite me. Bike
Comments: I mentioned I didn't dry my feet. Well 3 miles in they were numb from the cold. Stupid. So I'm from Houston. It's flat here. I expected some hills, but also expected I trained enough to deal with them. I was wrong. About 3 hills in my legs were hating me. I kept up the pace well enough through about 10 miles and then people started to fly by me. Especially the men in my age group and below. What would you do differently?: Head out the 45 minutes NW of where I live to train in a more undulating region. Transition 2
Comments: Feet were still numb and getting my running shoes on was a bit more difficult than expected. What would you do differently?: Sit down to put shoes on. Run
Comments: I hadn't done bricks since my last race in August. It took a second for my legs to adjust to running. Other than that I did well. PR on a 5k actually. I did have some left in the tank though which irritated me. What would you do differently?: Practice bricks. Go harder. Post race
Warm down: 1/4 mile jog. Walking and drinking What limited your ability to perform faster: Pre race nutrition. Not having ridden hills in the past. Event comments: Good race. Well organized and supported by volunteers. Pretty happy about the whole thing. The only knock I have is it's a pool swim and that's more of a personal preference. Last updated: 2010-09-13 12:00 AM

So I let my buddy convince me to give his pre-race routine a go. NEVER AGAIN!! Don't let guys with iron stomachs convince you Waffle House is a good idea pre race, cause it's not. Anyway got to transition about 6:20, set up, popped some caffeine tabs and zoned out until a lane cleared in the pool to w/u.
Dynamic stretching, 200m light swim, more dynamic stretching and it was time to line up for the swim. I'd never done a pool swim so I was kinda anxious.
