Swim
Comments: Never felt like I got into a groove in the swim. Bumped and kicked a few times but nothing major. However, this did throw me off as I would take a second each time to re-route. I will get used to this and I just need more work in the swim. Although I never felt great, my placing was much better than I expected. What would you do differently?: Start faster, ignore the bumps and push myself a little harder. More swim training. Started swimming 6 weeks ago. Transition 1
Comments: What a mess. Left leg got stuck and by the time I stood up I realized I was dizzy. Took a few seconds to calm down and then moved ahead with helmet, etc. As I was using a bike I had picked up a few weeks earlier, I decided to throw on my polar watch and GPS that I use when road biking. This was a mistake as it slowed me way down and the GPS (speedometer) gave me trouble at the beginning of the ride. I went into this thinking, I dont really mind if T1 takes a little longer, and now I'm obsessing over it. What would you do differently?: Forget the watch and GPS, practice the transition a few times at full speed. Bike
Comments: Fought with GPS and speedometer for first half mile. Then I settled down. Made the mistake of staying out of aero bars from turn to turn, rather than just in tuns and when going over Route 35. Other than these two issues, I felt the ride was strong and tried not to push to hard on the last leg as I didn't want to have a poor run. What would you do differently?: Hammer the end, ask for a clarification of "out of aero bars" when turning onto 9th street and over 35. Forget about the watch and GPS. I thought I needed one as I had only ridden this bike twice for a total of 30 miles prior to the event and I hadn't picked up a computer, etc. Transition 2
Comments: No time appears on the final sheet for T2 and from my watch I think it was 1:10 and it is included in my run time. What would you do differently?: Rack bike from correct side. Run
Comments: First half mile or slow was slow. Felt comfortable by the turn (approx 1.7 miles in) and especially the last .5 or .6 when I saw the finish. Based on whether or not my T2 time is correct at an estimated 1:10, I believe I reached my goal of 30 mins for the run. No, this is not blazing, but I just started running 6 weeks ago. 10 weeks ago if you count the 1.5 per week I did for the first 4 weeks. So I will say the run was Below Average (time based) but good based on expectations. What would you do differently?: Increase training. Post race
Warm down: Felt good and whereas I was thinking of food at some point during the ride, I did not feel hungry afterwards. Around noon I felt like a truck hit me and recovered by half time of the first game. What limited your ability to perform faster: I need more training. Event comments: I think, for my first experience, this was an excellent event with a tremendous amount of support. My family commented several times on the turn out and how well organized the event was. I have been very impressed by the organizers and supporters in the weeks leading up to and during the event. Afterwards my 7 year old asked when he could do a triathlon and my 2 year old swiped my medal. So, in other words, it was fantastic. Last updated: 2010-09-13 12:00 AM

Woke up at 3:45, ate (protein shake and red rasberry jelly on whole wheat), stretched.
None really, had to take my suit off twice as I started putting it on incorrectly. This had not happened before. Go figure, it was my first tri. By the time I got to the water I had enough time to swim past the breakers and swim back in for pre-race meeting.
