Overall Rank = 93/315
Age Group = 25-29F
Age Group Rank = 2/19
Pre-race routine:

The usual. Woke up at 3:30. Bagel for breakfast. Drove out to the race early and snagged a great transition spot.
Event warmup:

10 min jog, 5 min swim, huddled in the equipment room with 7-8 other athletes trying to stay out of the cold, cold wind. Pretty wimpy, but transition closed an hour before the race, which was not conducive to warm ups.
Swim
  • 17m 8s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 16s / 100 meters
Comments:

Holy crap, thought I was going to die. First OWS with wave start. Had to kick on my back twice before even reaching the first buoy, just to calm down. About 1/4th through, started to get back to my regular stroke.
What would you do differently?:

Next time, will start to the outside, just like everyone recommends. I'm not fast enough to start in the front.
Transition 1
  • 02m 56s
Comments:

Best transition of the age group--even beat my husband! Had great position, though...got pretty lucky with that.
What would you do differently?:

Eventually want to learn how to keep bike shoes clipped into the bike.
Bike
  • 38m 10s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Wet, windy, hilly. Ugh. Could have pushed a little harder on a couple of the swim
What would you do differently?:

May have pushed a little harder on the hills.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

Nice and faster than most. However, slow slow running with the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Eventually want to learn a nice dismount.
Run
  • 26m 56s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt much better than my first tri 2 weeks ago. Luckily had a girl (22, not in my age group) right at my pace-- we definitely helped each other keep it up!
What would you do differently?:

Could have picked up the pace. I keep worrying about running out of gas, but end up with more to give at the finish line.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking to transition, then some tex-mex. It was 65 degrees and windy.

Event comments:

Enjoyed it! Was very challenging, though!
