Run
Comments: I liked how the run was 3 miles because it gave me a chance to get going..I usually need about a mile to get into my groove. What would you do differently?: Try to get away from Tammy sooner...she is the loudest runner :) Transition 1
Comments: I got new bike shoes a few weeks ago and have had a really hard time clipping in. Was concerned about this but bam! clipped in right away...now of only the rest of the bike was as easy as that. What would you do differently?: Since I was literally right at the bike out/bike in not much. Pretty much the best Transition spot I got all year! Bike
Comments: 32 miles is still a long bike for me - add the fact that it was foggy, the roads were a little wet and that I was just not into it..not a good thing. Mentally I was in a bad place on this ride. Felt like quitting at mile 7 and at mile 24 :( Lost my water bottle on one of the RR tracks and aeropad flipped up on another. Never even got into aero because the roads were soooo rutted and bumpy. What would you do differently?: Funny thing is that despite how much I hated this part of the course I had one of my highest rankings of the year..go figure. What would I do differently..come into the race with a better attitude. Also not back off like I did a couple of times because in the end less than a minute seperated me from my 18th female OA and 12th female OA Transition 2
Comments: Again very happy to be right at the bike in and off of the bike! Tammy was already done and she looked at me like "what happened"..I held back the multiple expletives that would have come out of my mouth...needed to save my breath for the 2nd run :) What would you do differently?: Took a little while for me to stumble back onto the run course I was still mad about the bike :) Run
Comments: Took me a little bit to get my legs moving...after that I was loving the fact that this was only a mile! What would you do differently?: Have a better bike so that I had a better run! Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Inexperience, mentality and tired of racing. I really didn't bring it mentally to the course. All in all I had a good race when you look at the numbers but I could have brought it in with a better attitude. The bike course kicked my butt and a small part of that was due to the conditions. The fog freaked me out and on the bumpy parts I should have rode more towards the center Event comments: As always Midwest Sports Events put on a great race. Good food after..very organized. The one commnet I do have was the end of the first run was a mess. The course was set up so that the run ended along the start and being in the first wave there were still waves starting when I got back towards T1..there were mutiple instances where I had to yell "Look out" to the indivduals that were still starting. Since the start time was 7:30 AM and the drive was about 2 1/2 hours I decided to stay the night up in GB. One daughter had a soccer game Saturday late afternoon and the other had a gymnastics meet Sunday afternoon...would have been too much for them to come so off I went by myself. Hotel was a block from the start..nice! Colors were beautiful on the drive up too!
Since my hotel was so close I didn't have to get up too early but I wanted to follow my normal pre-race routine so I got up about 5:30 - warmed up on the hotel elliptical ;) and set off to transistion. I was in the first wave and my spot was abotu 10 feet from the bike in and bike out!
Unfortunately the nice weather had turned to fog and pretty cold in the morning. I was wearing my race tank and arm warmers and at the last second grabbed a shirt to throw on. THen off to the start which was right in front of the stadium..very cool!
