Swim
Comments: Had trouble sighting after the last turn into the beach - started sighting off a drifting buoy until I realized I was heading up river. I corrected myself quickly and ended up further upstream than most of the other swimmers, so it was less work for me to get back to shore. What would you do differently?: Sight better. Wade through the water less at the end - I stood up because people were walking faster than I was swimming but it made my legs cramp. Transition 1
Comments: Slow transition, but I wanted to take my time. I have problems with foot cramps, so I didn't want any since my legs already started cramping in the swim. So I sat down to take off my wetsuit and put on my bike shoes. What would you do differently?: There are a lot of improvements I can make to transitions - I'll work on them next year. This year was my first at tris so I just wanted to make sure I could handle the distance. Bike
Comments: Ride was fine - started feeling sick about an hour in, even though I tried to take a bite of powerbar every 15 mins. Handled bottle handups fine. Passed a lot of people, didn't get passed by many - the advantage of starting in the last wave. What would you do differently?: Figure out what makes me nauseous and fix it! I'm happy with my time - I was hoping for 3:15, so that was great! Transition 2
Comments: Slow transition again - I knew I'd have a tough run with the nausea, so I took my time and tried to get it to go away. Had to stop for a potty break. What would you do differently?: See comment for T1 - I'll push it next time. Still the fastest novice T2 time. Run
Comments: Legs felt great - I had the stamina, conditioning, leg strength to maintain a faster pace. No "dead" leg feeling off the bike. The only thing that kept me back was nausea. Had to walk at all the aid stations and drink Heed to keep it at bay. It lessened on the last loop, but not enough to pick up the pace too much. Still managed negative splits. What would you do differently?: Nothing. My problem wasn't my fitness. Need to figure out why I get nauseous. I have it worked out for marathons, but need a different nutrition plan in the tri. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, at macaroni and cheese, picked up my wine bottle and glass (awards), packed up, and drove home (5 hours) What limited your ability to perform faster: Nausea. Only. Event comments: Great race. This is my first season at tris - Set Up events do a GREAT job. Last updated: 2010-09-15 12:00 AM
