Setup Events - VTS
Total Time = 57m 10s
Overall Rank = 6/220
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 1/11
Pre-race routine:

Got up, regular breakfast, put bike and stuff in car. No major headaches this morning aside from feeling a little tired. 5:30 comes early when you don't get in bed until about 1 that same morning... worked event staff @ the Rush concert. They always seem to coincide with events, but anyway.
Event warmup:

Setup transition, walked around, otherwise none.
Swim
  • 05m 4s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

I stunk it up in the pool. Good thing it was a short swim.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get some speed back in the water. Need to examine my present swimming workouts and find the speed I had earlier this year.
Transition 1
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

My helmet went weird on me and my chin strap was loose for some reason. Not a perfect transition by any means, shoes didn't go on smoothly. 15 seconds or so lost in this transition.
What would you do differently?:

I should add double checking the strap to my pre-race checklist.
Bike
  • 30m 26s
  • 11 miles
  • 21.69 mile/hr
Comments:

Still haven't gotten my front dérailleur lever replaced, so I did this event with my big ring only. Probably would have like to spin up some of the hills on this course, otherwise not a bad ride given the hilliness of the course.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe find the time to get to my shop that has my lever waiting for me. Otherwise I probably could have pushed it more on the course, but being unfamiliar with the course, didn't want to blow myself out.
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

Pretty routine, Zoots didn't slide right on... maybe 10 seconds lost here overall in retrospect.
Run
  • 19m 46s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Well, set my PR for a 5K. Pretty flat course with a little hill that was a bit challenging that you hit on each loop.
What would you do differently?:

Go harder and faster... I seem to cross the lines in these sprints and think that I left too much in reserve. Still learning and feeling these things out.
Post race
Warm down:

Gatorade, they had a huge tin of the fruit and nut trail mix from Costco I love and walked around with my wife. Chatted with some friends. Felt fine.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Started horribly in the pool, otherwise pretty happy with this one aside from little nit-picking things here and there.

Event comments:

Another great race by the folks at Setup Events. Not bad for an inaugural race at this venue.
