Overall Rank = 2329/4450
Age Group = M 30-34
Age Group Rank = 336/486
Pre-race routine:

Wake up a 5am. Eat a bar. Start drinking water. Wait in the rain for a taxi. Wait in the rain for a bus. Setup transition in mud and rain. Wait for delayed start.
Event warmup:

Stretch.
Swim
  • 41m 45s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 47s / 100 meters
Comments:

Stupid me. I screwed up royally the day before and didn't get to do a practice swim. I really stunk this swim up. I did 95% backstroke b/c I was panicky and couldn't get a rhythm. I was prepared to swim, but not prepared for the event of swimming the tri. At least I know what to expect for next time around.
What would you do differently?:

This swim could not have been worse unless I hadn't finished it. I can't imagine doing any worse than this. I have to work on navigating around other swimmers when I run into them. I have to work on getting my breathing going in the open water. I have to work on all the distractions.
Transition 1
  • 06m 4s
Comments:

First transition ever. Could have been better. Could have been worse.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster.
Bike
  • 1h 13m 7s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.39 mile/hr
Comments:

New Easton Race wheels. I had never ridden them before. This was my first timed time-trial. I was very happy with a 20.4mph speed in the rain.
What would you do differently?:

I think the ceramic brake on the back might have been touching the tire. Its unknown, but if that was the case it would have slowed me down.
Transition 2
  • 04m 21s
What would you do differently?:

Forgot my race belt! I was slow because I was trying to get some nutrition. I should have saved this for the run portion rather than doing it while I stopped. I also lost time putting the bike computer in the bag. Tying laces took too long. Need to put on the race laces next time.
Run
  • 52m 16s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run. First mile the slowest and last mile the fastest.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

None.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swimming, swimming, swimming.

Event comments:

The weather could have ruined this race, but the organizers regrouped and did a great job under tough circumstances.
