Pre-race routine:

Honey bunches of oats - banana - cofee - water - Christina drove me out and dropped me off at the start. Calves felt tight, so spent a little extra time stretching them out. First time early to a race! Had 30 minutes to spare - much more relaxing than literally showing up last minute like I usually do!
Event warmup:

Just a little jogging up and down Rt 1a. A little stretching...

Comments:

Very even paced run. Just set my Garmin "virtual partner" to 6:30 minute miles. Goal was to beat last years time by doing 1:05. Started out quicker than that and just kept building my "lead". Figured as long as kept on building, my time would be fine. Felt very good the whole way. Was definitely pushing myself, but not so much that I won't be able to funtion tomorrow. Fastest mile was first at 5:57. Slowest was 6:17 for mile 7 when I started to feel pretty tired. Pretty even splits...
What would you do differently?:

Train more - More speed work. I would like to break 1 hr on this course, but I'll probable do the 20 next year. Put band-aids on my nips!
Post race
Warm down:

walked around a bit - Christina brought me my sweats...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No speedwork this early in the season. Poor diet/nutrition/hydration over the last couple of weeks.

Event comments:

Nice race. Not much entheusiasm out there from the folks working it though... Seemed like this was maybe just the warm up for the big race -the 20 miler that was on thier way behind us. Guess that's just the deal. But hey - they were out there in the chill and helping us out. In no way would I minimize how crucial it is to have those folks out there handing our water etc etc... I always try to gasp out several thank you's as I puff by. And I truly am thankful -i've just seen some races with folks more pumped up - but hey - I'm probably asking too much! I haven't yet volunteered at a race - so I should just shut up! Like i said - I'll be back next year (for the 20) Nice Gloves, and the coolmax shirt is nice (Hope so, as I paid extra for it) :-)
