Age Group Rank = 8/23
Pre-race routine:

Woke Up... ate a bowl of cereal... wife and dog loaded into the car and we were off. 20min drive, got my transition area set up (a little over crowded) but managed to get organized.

Event warmup:

Drank a little Jacked 3d... Mini jumping jacks... walked around.
Swim
  • 06m 19s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

We were lined up for a time trial start... i went off 10-12 seconds after the "lead pack".
What would you do differently?:

this was my second event... I have now learned that i should join the lead pack (in the swim)... I caught at least 5-10 people from the lead pack... i think i would be better suited to draft in the lead pack.
Transition 1
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

long distance from ocean to the transition area... once in the area, i was slowed a bit because of how crowded everything was.
What would you do differently?:

Get an end spot in the transition area
Bike
  • 33m 18s
  • 10 miles
  • 18.02 mile/hr
Comments:

I had to Pee so very badly... I was thirsty, but adding fluid to the problem just wasn't something i wanted to do.
What would you do differently?:

Pee before the race!
Transition 2
  • 01m 29s
Comments:

Person in front of me stumbled, which cost me a few seconds - no biggie.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much... I had the stretchy laces, which you tighten and tie quickly. My left shoe had too much lace hanging.
Run
  • 28m 14s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Running is my weakness. I train using 10 minute miles on the treadmill, so i did better then my training.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push it a little harder... I was afraid of cramping because i was not drinking (because i needed to pee)
Post race
Warm down:

walked around with my wife and dog. I felt very good this time. It was my 2nd race (my 1st race was last Saturday).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Needing to Pee was a psychological killer... I didn't drink at all - which made me worry about cramping.

Event comments:

I am very happy with my overall performance. I feel good about my improvements and am considering a 1/2 iron man next year. we will see!

Course: The course was very wind protected. Most of the roads were very smooth, a few were bumpy. 2 or 3 turns were very sharp and i actually touched my breaks twice. There was 1 hill with a down hill following, at the bottom there was a split that slowed me for a second - the police man at the bottom of the hill did not do a very good job directing and at the moment there was nooone in front of me to follow.
