IRONMAN

Sunny
Total Time = 6h 20m 38s
Overall Rank = 418/1357
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 74/178
Pre-race routine:

Lucky Charms and a couple cups of coffee :D
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 47m 54s
  • 2100 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

Basically, a crappy swim. BUT... this was literally the 5th time I have swam in over 1 year.
What would you do differently?:

Not a lot. I am going to try to do maybe 8-10 swims in the next year, and see if I cant cut 10 minutes off that time.
Transition 1
  • 05m 41s
Comments:

Course didnt allow flying mounts. I had a LONG run from my rack position to the bike out. Made my tranny time a little slow to run that distance in my bike shoes.

Total Ascent 5401; Total Descent: 5412
What would you do differently?:

Not a lot. It was a pretty much perfect execution.
Bike
  • 3h 05m 13s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.14 mile/hr
Comments:

Not a lot to add here. Rode what I thought was a pretty solid ride. I laid off some to keep sme gas in the tank for the run, unfortunately, the heat made the run impossible anyway.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, maybe swap out the 53x39 for a 54x38, but keep the 11x28 rear.
Transition 2
  • 02m 46s
Comments:

Again, no flying dismounts, so it slowed T2 down a bit. Overall a perfect execution though. No complaints.
What would you do differently?:

Nada
Run
  • 2h 19m 4s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Everything went well until mile 5. I felt great, but then the HEAT just zapped me. I have never seen so many athletes walking. The run was basically relegated to a run/walk. I keep all cramping at bay until mile 10, when my achilles was cramping (which has never happened to me before).
What would you do differently?:

More salt. I took in about 650mg, but I ran out, and it was clearly the limiting factor for me. As soon as the salt ran out, the cramps set in and I simply couldnt run.
Post race
Warm down:

nada.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat. It was simply unbearable.

Event comments:

Awesome race. Ill be back next year if they have it again!
