Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 4:30. Had a small bowl of cereal and a cup of orange juice. After that just started to freak out about the swim and hoping that I can just get through it without stopping.
Event warmup:

Not that much except for a quick run to try to relax for the swim.
Swim
  • 16m 1s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Well, where to start....this just went bad the second I jumped in the water. And besides this just being my second OWS after learning how to swim four months ago. I just got hit, smack.. .run over..I couldn't relax for about 500m of the race. I had to stop about three times just so I can get some oxygen and calm my self down. But, overall I'm glad that I didn't quit after swallowing all that salt water.
What would you do differently?:

Just start way in the back of my wave and more training.
Transition 1
  • 02m 46s
Comments:

I was surprised that my time wasn't longer than 2m because I did struggle with my wetsuit and also felt drain from the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Practice jumping into bike with shoes already clip.
Bike
  • 32m 35s
  • 11 miles
  • 20.26 mile/hr
Comments:

My goal for the bike portion of the race was to simply to pedal as hard as I could for 11 miles. I know that's not a good strategy after reading a lot of race reports...but, I just wanted to see how much improvement I had made in a month since my first race. And what I learned after I saw my time result was..nothing. Exact time as my first race.
What would you do differently?:

Don't know if the swim just exhausted me so much that I sucked in the bike or just that I needed to be more realistic in expecting too much in just one month of training.
Transition 2
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

Everything went good except for getting my bike on the rack.
What would you do differently?:

Nada that I can think.
Run
  • 17m 34s
  • 3 miles
  • 05m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

Running is my strength so I knew that I would still be fine even if I went crazy on the bike. But, it wasn't that smooth as I thought it would be..the 1st mile seem like it would never come and my legs were just gone from the all-out attempt in the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

None. Just drank some Gatorade to see if I can get that salty taste out of my mouth from all that salt water that I drank early on.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think that I just need to be more realistic in what I could accomplish in just my second race and four months of training. I don't have a background in swimming or bicycling so I know that I need time and work at it.

Event comments:

It was a good organized race in my opinion. That being said this was just my second so I can compare to others. Hope to return next year and doing it again(except for the swim)
