Age Group Rank = 42/58
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4 am....Coffee and a bowl of Smart Start Cereal..started sipping water...hung out at my house and made sure everything was ready and left my house at 5 am
Event warmup:

set up transition...went for a jog and warmed up in the water for about 10 min.....
Swim
  • 33m 7s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 13s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was my best overall swim i have had in a race..everything was perfect.
started toward the back of my wave and it worked out perfect..got into a good rythmn and breathing was good...this was the first swim where i never stopped to breast stroke or back stroke...was a huge confidence builder...felt kinda good to actually pass a few people and be able to enjoy the swim and take it all in :)

What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 05m 24s
Comments:

was a pretty good jog from swim exit to transition but was good to get legs warmed up....
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 1h 21m 36s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.27 mile/hr
Comments:

i felt like i really hammered this bike out (for me)...my run has always been my best discipline so i figured what the hell, im not gonna leave anything out there on the bike course..into the wind was able to hold about 17mph and with the tailwind was able to hold about 23mph...overall was a good ride for not have done many miles lately...

for nutrition i had gatorade and gu's and a cliff protein bar

Gatorade: 8oz/15min
Gu: 1pk/30min
Cliff: 1/4 bar 1 hr into ride
What would you do differently?:

train more....

pushed a lil harder into the wind and take advantage of the tailwind and recover....even though the headwind and the tailwind are equal in distance you still spend more time in the headwind so it may have been worth it to push a little harded into the wind...

the good thing was the headwind was going out and the tailwind was coming home which was rewarding
Transition 2
  • 02m 6s
Comments:

no problems
What would you do differently?:

not much
Run
  • 55m 29s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

my run has always been my strongest discipline...i pushed pretty hard on the bike so it took me about 2 miles to get my heart rate down...everything else felt good but i was really concentrating on getting my HR down..started out at about 10's and eventually 9's and 8's and my last mile was in the mid 7's.....i have put in a lot of run miles this month at a slower pace training for Iron Star...

....i wish i could have been a little faster in the beginning of the run..but as long as i am negative splitting every mile i cant complain :)
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

bottle of water and cold towel.....my cousin matt was at the finish so it was good to stand there and chat with him after finishing....grabbed a bagel and a couple of slices of pizza and waited for transition to open....

What limited your ability to perform faster:

just started back my training regement about 6 weeks ago....it felt really good to get out and race..havent raced since Galveston in April...

Event comments:

weather was perfect, started on time,....was a great race, will definately do it again next year...
